"There are some who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they have gone, their light remains"
Tracy Larramendy, 53, passed away unexpectedly on December 10, 2024, while attending judicial training in Las Vegas. Born in San Francisco, he moved around before eventually settling in Hawthorne, where he and his brother, Burke, became part of the Larramendy and Mitchell families. Tracy was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Gail Larramendy; his grandparents, Tim McCoy and John Tracy; and his daughter, Jordan Godard.
Tracy was a proud graduate of Mineral County High School. As a teenager, he worked at Scotty’s gas station before beginning a long and accomplished career in mining and the tire industry. He worked at several mines across Nevada, including Candelaria, Rawhide, and Mineral Ridge. The most important was Equatorial—where he got the big “10-4” and met the love of his life, his wife, Karry Larramendy.
During his time in mining, he eventually started working on OTR tires, which led him to a lifelong career in the tire industry. Over the years, he worked with and contributed to many companies, including Western Central Petroleum, D&D Tire, GCR, TDS, Bridgestone, Great Basin Tire, and Southern Tire Mart. No matter where he worked, he built a reputation for honesty, dedication, and a relentless work ethic.
Despite his career in tires, Tracy’s true passion remained mining. He always kept an eye on the industry, even when he wasn’t directly involved. But above all, he loved his family. Tracy’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife, Karry; his daughter, Drayk; and his sons, Andrew, Bradley, Hunter, and Preston. His heart never fully healed from the loss of his daughter Jordan, who passed away just three weeks before him. He also adored his grandchildren, cherishing every moment with them.
Beyond work, Tracy found happiness in the mountains, exploring old ghost towns, and learning their histories. He loved discovering places few had seen. He also enjoyed days at the lake, gathering family together, and making memories that would last a lifetime.
Baseball wasn’t Tracy’s passion, but his kids loved it—so he made it his. When they had no team, he built one, got a van, and took them on the road. They didn’t just compete—they dominated. But for Tracy, it was never about baseball; it was about giving his kids and their teammates the chance to compete, grow, and succeed. If something mattered to his family, it mattered to him.
He also deeply loved the town of Hawthorne—the place that took him in as a child and became his forever home. He had a deep appreciation for the community that embraced him, and in return, he gave his loyalty, hard work, and heart to it.
Tracy will be remembered for his infectious humor, unwavering generosity, and “work hard, play hard” spirit. But more than anything, he will be remembered for his boundless heart—expansive, unwavering, and full of deep, selfless love.
Tracy is survived by his wife, Karry; his children, Drayk, Andrew, Bradley, Preston, and Hunter; his beloved grandchildren; and his siblings, Burke, Kelly, Gary, Greg, Carl, Ryan, and Carrie.
His life ended far too soon, but his impact will never fade. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him, and may we all strive to live with the same passion, kindness, and dedication that he did.
