Andy Michael Hartsock
Andy was a hardworking, kind human with a gift for making people laugh, often when they least expected it. He was the friend everyone knew they could call for help, a good time, or both. Andy loved history and craftsmanship, and when others saw “old,” he saw character. He had an eye for beauty in places most people overlooked.
That love of building later turned into Andy Hartsock Construction, where he flipped homes and added his own signature flair, usually with a clever idea and a good deal behind it. Andy LOVED a deal. Cars, groceries, tools, if it was a bargain, Andy had already found it (and probably told you about it).
Andy enjoyed sports, cheering faithfully for the Cubs, Steelers, and Iowa Hawkeyes. In his free time, he could be found golfing, playing slow-pitch softball, or enjoying the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, biking, and even skiing when winter rolled around. He loved trying new foods and was actually a great cook… though he preferred eating the food much more than making it. He had a sweet tooth mostly for ice cream and cookies.
Andy met his wife, Kendra, in 2015 at a friend’s party. Kendra was immediately drawn to Andy’s quick jokes and rascally smirk. The next night, with a little encouragement from friends, they exchanged numbers and shared their first kiss at Boonie’s on the Avenue.
Kendra moved to Des Moines shortly after, but Andy made the trip for their first official date at Fong’s Pizza, a fun-filled weekend that left a mark on both of their hearts. After a brief pause in communication, Kendra moved back to Wilton in June 2017 and reach back out to Andy. Andy jokingly referred to as her “crawling back to him.” They started dating in July and were inseparable often found laughing, adventuring, and being silly together.
Andy’s first flip home, 819 Hoffman St. became their first home together. Where they made many amazing memories and lifelong friends. Andy’s helpful hand and goofiness made quick connections with all of their neighbors.
In May 2020, Andy proposed in true Andy fashion, by building Kendra a porch swing she’d been hinting about for ages. He surprised her when she came home from a walk, and of course, she said yes. The swing promptly broke the first time they sat on it, which somehow made the moment even more perfect because they once again were laughing together.
Andy and Kendra married on May 1, 2021, a day filled with laughter, love, family, and friends. Andy spent a lot of times. The dance floor even though it wasn’t something he often did. He did it because his wife was there❤️
Andy always wanted to be a dad. On Valentine’s Day 2022, Kendra wrapped up a pregnancy test to surprise him, and they were overjoyed. Andy immediately went into preparation mode, determined to make Kendra calm, happy, and supported during pregnancy.
They welcomed their daughter, Talula Mae Hartsock, on October 15, 2022, at 11:55 p.m. Andy stayed by Kendra’s side through the long labor, watching baseball and doing his best to pretend he wasn’t grossed out.
Andy loved being a dad. He was endlessly silly, always trying to make Talula laugh with tickles and faces. Even though kids were new territory for him, Andy jumped in wholeheartedly doing anything and everything for his family, just like he always did for others.
He will be missed by his family forever.
