Lindsy and júpiter
Lindsy Angeles Vargas, 14, of Chocowinity, North Carolina, passed away while visiting family in Mexico.
Lindsy was born on December 30, 2010, in Greenville, NC, but her hometown was Chocowinity. She was a recent graduate of Chocowinity Middle School, where she was known for her bright smile, kind heart, and love of sports. A passionate athlete, Lindsy played soccer and softball, though her favorite was volleyball. She proudly wore jersey number 2 and was loved by her teachers, teammates, and friends for her determination, humor, and warmth.
Lindsy was a devoted member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, where she received both her baptism and First Communion. She was planning to begin her journey toward Confirmation. Lindsy was also looking foward to another milestone, her Quinceañera, the following year. Every Sunday, she attended Spanish Mass with her father and nieces, followed by one of her favorite traditions—sharing a meal together, usually including her favorite, steak tacos.
Lindsy was deeply loved by her family. Her mother, Margarita, remembers their movie nights and waterfront walks, often ending with a sweet stop at Scoops for ice cream. Her father, Juan, cherished the many moments they spent together shopping, eating out, and simply being by each other's side. Her siblings—Nancy, Johanna, Juan, and Kevin—each shared a unique and special bond with her. Her brothers, Juan and Kevin, shared a playful and protective bond with Lindsy. They liked to play-fight, hang out during family events, and play games together. Johanna was her best friend and constant companion, often heard laughing and teasing with Lindsy, practicing sports, capturing memories in photos, and sharing everything about their lives—they truly knew each other inside and out. Nancy and her husband, Luis, welcomed Lindsy into their home like another daughter; she loved spending time there, especially playing with her nieces and nephew, who adored her.
Her niece Amy looked up to Lindsy as a role model—more like a big sister than an aunt. The love Lindsy gave to her family, teammates, and friends left an unforgettable mark on everyone she met.
She is survived by her parents, Margarita Vargas Ferrusca and Juan Angeles Martinez, of Chocowinity; her siblings, Johanna Angeles Vargas, Juan Angeles Vargas, and Kevin Angeles Vargas, all of Chocowinity; her sister Nancy Angeles Vargas and brother-in-law Luis Rodriguez, of Chocowinity; her nieces, Amy Rodriguez-Angeles and Emma Rodriguez-Angeles, and her nephew, Luis Armando Rodriguez-Angeles; and her beloved dog, Lily.
She will be remembered for her bright, contagious smile, kind heart, and the love she freely gave to all who knew her.
