MEMORIES...

Jamal was hilariously silly - One day after the Dr & Nurse did a home visit, they spent time just talking about the importance of him not going downstairs because of the strength of his medication etc... Jamal assured them that he understood & charmed them into believing that he would follow all medical advice. I seriously don't even think that they had even pulled all the way out of the driveway yet be for he Floated, yes Floated downstairs (I thought Jamal was a Ninja, lol) -peeking around like a teenager that's sneaking out... & then down more stairs to get to his drum set - If you have ever heard him play- then you know he was straight up Groove'N. I loved hearing him play! And now realize that he didn't float down 4 flights of stairs because of ninja skills - He was floating because Angels were carrying him. I am blessed to have stood behind him in Salat (prayer) & blessed to have my kids call him Uncle & blessed to have been called "his favorite" Muslim Sister.

Precious Memories

I have so many memories but one memory that stands out is from when Makkah was little, and they were living off Rice Street. One evening, after Jamal came home from work and sat on the couch, Makkah stood on the stairs and said, “Hi, Daddy.” Jamal said, “You’re going to have to do better than that.” Makkah understood what he meant, ran down the stairs, and jumped into his lap. The way he embraced her brought tears to my eyes, as well as my friend Maxi’s. I didn’t have my dad until I was 23, so I never experienced that kind of bond until adulthood. I spent much of my childhood around Tonicia and Jamal, and he always made it clear that I had a place with them. Another moment I’ll never forget was when Naeem was little. Whenever he heard a new word, he would always ask what it meant. One day, while watching something together, the word “poverty” came up, and Naeem asked what it meant. Jamal’s response was, “Something you’ll never have to worry about.” It was a privilege to witness how seriously he took his roles as a husband, father, and leader. He truly took pride in his responsibilities, and the love he showed his family extended to those around him. I’m humbled to have been part of that circle, and I’ll always cherish the example he set. Tonicia, thank you for sharing your awesome Husband with the rest of us! ♥️
