Life story

There are some souls whose light is so strong, so steady, so deeply rooted in love that their presence continues to illuminate the world long after they’re gone. Elizabeth Anne Luna was one of those rare lights.

Born on January 6, 1967, in Phoenix, Arizona, Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of Maria Josephine (Merina) Behrle Oakes and Alfredo Alvarado Altamirano. The first daughter of four children from that union, she was a natural caretaker and quiet leader from the start—traits that only grew stronger when her family expanded through her father’s second marriage. She loved her siblings—Alfredo Jr., Francesca, Roman, Brian, Annette, and Erlinda—fiercely and fully. She stepped into the role of helper, nurturer, and protector without hesitation, especially when her father fell ill during her late teenage years. The strength she carried in those formative moments would go on to define her life.

Elizabeth walked through this world with a rare grace—measured, thoughtful, and always rooted in love. She had the uncanny ability to make anyone feel like the most important person in the room. Whether you had known her for five minutes or a lifetime, you left her presence feeling seen, heard, and uplifted.

She was many things: a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a Nana, a mentor, a manager, and a friend. But above all, she was love in motion.

In 1984, through a mutual friend, she met Allen Lawrence Luna. Though she was hesitant at first, those closest to her know she had a quiet fondness for him from the beginning. They were married on March 15, 1986, and together, they created a life that was not only full of love—but full of living.

Their marriage was a true partnership. They shared hobbies, laughter, and a deep-rooted friendship that made everything they did together feel meaningful. From camping and fishing trips to becoming softball world champions side by side, their relationship was built on mutual respect, fun, and unwavering loyalty. Their love wasn’t just something they shared—it was something they showed, daily. Theirs was the kind of connection that people hope for and rarely find—steady, joyful, and inspiring. They prioritized each other, and they prioritized family. That bond between them made their home a place of warmth, humor, and unshakeable love.

Together, they raised three children: Monique Marie, Alicia Anne, and Anthony Lawrence. Elizabeth was a stay-at-home mom in those early years, pouring her soul into nurturing her daughters before joining the workforce at Things Remembered once her youngest daughter started kindergarten. What began as a part-time job grew into a 31-year career where she climbed the ranks to District and Regional Manager. But what defined her wasn’t her title—it was the way she led. With compassion. With integrity. With the kind of mentorship that shaped countless lives, many of whom still speak of her as the one who changed everything.

Even after retiring, she couldn’t stop nurturing others. She took on a new chapter in the refining industry, continuing to develop those around her—all while creating more space for what brought her true joy: her grandchildren. Becoming “Nana” lit a new spark in Elizabeth. From the magical bond she shared with her first granddaughter Tiana Jayde to the joy she poured into her grandsons, Darryl Anthony David and Hunter Allen John, she reveled in every giggle, every hug, and every moment. She didn’t just love her grandchildren—she showed them what love looked like in action.

Elizabeth was the rock for so many. She helped others walk through darkness with a calm strength that felt divine. Even in the face of hardship or betrayal, she led her family with a God-centered heart—teaching forgiveness, grace, and love not just with words, but with her life. Her wisdom carried a quiet power: “Lead with love. Even when others can’t. Especially then.”

Near the end of her life, her faith only deepened. She centered her heart on Christ, and her hope was that her family and those she loved would walk that path too. Even during her final hospital stay, her kindness and grace were so radiant that her doctor called the family after her passing, deeply moved by who she was.

Elizabeth Anne Luna was the light of this world.

And though that light now shines in a different way, it is not gone. It lives in her children. It lives in her grandchildren. It lives in the stories, the advice, the hugs, the memories. In every life she touched, her light flickers on.

If you were lucky enough to know her, you know this to be true:

She made this world more beautiful just by being in it.
