In loving memory of
Ciara Elise Jacobsen
To The Moon And Back
Ciara was born on November 3rd 1994 in Akron, Ohio. At just 3 days old she underwent her first of 3 open heart surgeries for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect that affects the left side of the heart, causing it to be underdeveloped and unable to support the body's circulation. While HLHS was a big part of her life, it certainly didn't define her.
Ciara drew everyone in with her infectious smile and outgoing, can-do attitude. Many classmates and peers would (& still do) call her their best friend.
Ciara lived by her motto "I can do anything" and would try any activity that was offered to her. She loved swimming, dancing, climbing, running, rough housing and playing with friends. She loved The Lion King, Toy Story, Eeyore and The Backstreet Boys.
Ciara's greatest joy was horseback riding. Ciara met Petie the Pony during regular physical therapy appointments at Akron Children's Hospital. She then began taking riding lessons at Victory Gallop when she was 3 years old. She fearlessly and whole heartedly bonded with Rico, a beautiful chestnut who agreed to her requests to "ride like the wind". Together they won many blue ribbons, but more importantly they shared in the smaller achievements and infinite happiness that time at the farm fostered.
Ciara had many special people in her life including Doctors, Teachers, Friends, Cousins, Volunteers. She rarely met a stranger and left everyone feeling loved and important.
