The friend in my adversity I shall always cherish most. I can better trust those who helped to relieve the gloom of my dark hours than those who are so ready to enjoy with me the sunshine of my prosperity. Ulysses S. Grant

Remembering Michael Pack

February 8, 1999 – February 1, 2023

If you really knew Michael Pack, you'd know he had a deep love for history. Even as a little kid, his love of history stood out—especially the year he dressed up as Abraham Lincoln for Halloween in kindergarten. That early fascination with the past never faded. He loved learning about the world and its stories, and he especially admired the military—largely because of his Uncle Tim, whose service inspired Michael’s deep respect for the U.S. Armed Forces. The two of them shared many afternoons watching M.A.S.H., talking about the world, and enjoying each other’s company.

Michael also had a big heart for music. In second grade, he proudly carried an Elvis lunchbox—and not just for show. He genuinely loved Elvis's music and would even write his own version of Elvis's music. His passion for singing eventually found a home in the school choir, where he loved being part of the group and sharing music with others.

Outside of school, Michael found joy in video games, spending time with friends, and sharing special weekend sports shooting with his papaw. He formed strong, lasting friendships through a shared love of gaming and movies, especially cult classics like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which led to endless laughs and inside jokes. Another movie franchise he loved was Star Wars. This helped create a bond with his sister, and whether they were quoting lines, rewatching favorite scenes, or debating characters, it was a connection that brought them even closer together.

Michael was the kind of person who made a big impact in quiet, meaningful ways. His sense of humor and kindness stuck with the people lucky enough to know him. His time here may have been short, but the stories, the laughs, and the love he gave will be remembered always. If you take anything away from this, remember to tell those around you that you care about them. You never know what someone is going through or how long you have with them.
