Life story

Craig was born on November 14, 1971 in his parents’ bedroom at their family home in Edgerton, MN where he was lovingly raised with his attentive sister and two mischievous brothers.

Craig was a lifelong confessing member of First Christian Reformed Church, serving as deacon and enjoyed singing with the praise team. He developed his relationship with Jesus as a Cadet while attending Edgerton Christian Elementary. He graduated from Edgerton Public High School in 1990, and as an active leader in RCYF throughout his high school years.

During his childhood he found his first love, the outdoors, where he pursued hunting and fishing, becoming an expert at everything from walleyes to waterfowl and even took out a few rabbits through the dining room window.

At the age of 16, Craig fell in love a second time when he purchased his Dodge Challenger, spending many hours restoring (and racing) it along side his teacher and lifelong mentor, his dad. Craig began his first and only career joining his Dad & Mom at “The Shop”.

Following his high school graduation, he attended Worthington Community College before transferring to St. Cloud State University where he majored in… well no one really knows what Craig majored in, but he had fun and got good grades none the less, graduating in 1994. (Craig graduated with a Major in Elective Studies of Industrial Arts with a Minor in Marketing)

Craig returned to Edgerton and on Sept 2, 1995 he was united in marriage to Shelley Brands, at First CRC, where they also raised their family.

He went on to purchase Rogers Auto Sales from his parents along with his brother and business partner.

Craig was a gifted mechanic and automotive genius, able to diagnose and fix anything simply by taking it apart and figuring it out. If a project stumped him, he would spend countless hours late into the night researching and studying until he figured it out.

Craig loved to serve others and spent most of his adult life as an EMT, storm chaser, tow truck driver, Dutch Festival committee member, and served on various positions at school and church.

He had a passion for music and entertainment and an uncanny ability to find live music anywhere. He was often found dressed up as his favorite characters making others laugh and smile, or cruising down the highway on his Harley Davidson with the music turned way up (singing just as loud).

Craig was always “Happy, Happy, Happy”.

His love for the outdoors landed him many trophy-worthy fish and wildlife, however he was never prouder than he was when his one of his sons made the big catch. His boys can be seen hoisting their prize in photos as Craig admired his greatest and proudest achievements, his sons Ashton, Derek & Kade.

He looked for every opportunity to spend time with his family, often calling them to go to a car show, camping, fishing, hunting, or dirt bike rides. He enjoyed pre-dawn hunts and late night fishing with his boys, always commenting on how much he enjoyed seeing the beauty of creation at dawn.

Craig entered heaven into the loving arms of his Savior on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at the age of 49 years, 10 months, 9 days.
