

Derek E. Hawkins II
Derek Eugene Hawkins, II, known affectionately as D'zel, was born on October 28, 1996, in Beaufort, South Carolina. Son to Derek Hawkins and Felicia Savage Hawkins, Derek's journey on earth concluded on May 22, 2021. Raised in Denver, Colorado, he was a diligent and honored student throughout his education, attending Marrama Elementary, Knight Academy, Omar D. Blair Elementary, and Florida Pitt-Waller. He graduated with honors from East High School, where he engaged in Project Greer Street, AVID, and Angels for AP Excellence, and participated in JV wrestling.
Derek pursued higher education at Arizona State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Law & Public Policy with a focus in Business Management. Known for his kindness and vibrant personality, he was actively involved in his community, participating in programs like the Denver Chapter of Jack & Jill of America and internships with Tempe Parks & Recreation and the City of Denver's Office of Economic Development.
Derek's affable nature and respect for others were hallmark traits; his smile and genuine warmth were memorable to all who met him. As a true Renaissance Man, Derek was not only academically gifted but also enjoyed golf, painting, and paddle boarding. He began his professional career with Xfinity's Market & Development Team and spent his final hours joyfully paddle boarding with friends.
Derek's memory is cherished by his parents, Derek and Felicia Hawkins, his sister Deja, and a wide circle of family and friends, including his Godson Daylen (Deuce) Bowen II. Derek's remarkable spirit and profound impact on his community will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
