Jonathan Blake Cope
This page was created to celebrate life and is dedicated to the memory of Jonathan "John" Blake Cope, whose spirit departed from us on April 21, 2020, at the age of 26. Jonathan was a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all fortunate enough to know him. He was born in Mecklenburg County and is the son of Richard Barry Cope and Tracy Lynn Smith Cope.
In addition to his parents, Jonathan is survived by his brothers, Brian Christopher Cope (Allison) and Travis Brent Cope (Logan); paternal grandparents, Nelson and Janet Cope; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Leann Smith and Linda and Mike Furr. Jonathan is also survived by his nieces, who brought him so much pride and were dear to his heart, Elizabeth Cope, Gracelynn Cope, Makenzie Cope, Piper Cope, and Nora Cope. Following his passing, his first nephew was born in February 2021 and named after him, Jonathan Luke Cope.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Babe Wilson, his paternal great-grandparents, John and Lunie Cope, and his maternal great-grandparents, Roy and Edith Johnson and Hattie and Curtis Smith.
There were many wonderful aspects to Jonathan's life, particularly his contagious laughter. He loved spending time with his family, playing backyard football, camping, taking boating trips in the mountains, and vacationing at the beach. Jonathan will be remembered as a wonderful son and brother, a great friend, a loving uncle, a generous cousin, and a friendly face in the community and at his place of work. In all these ways and more, he made the lives of people who knew him richer and fuller. One day, we will be able to tell him about the things he missed in that boundless heaven above and rejoice in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I hope everyone who comes across his grave marker will find joy in the photos and videos of him for generations to come. We encourage you to share any pictures, kind comments, or memories of Jonathan in the tribute section.
