For Aunt Felecia: My Mentor, My Confidante, My Joy
Aunt Felecia, you were more than my aunt—you were my friend, my mentor, my confidante, and my twin flame. You were my anchor and my spark, always knowing how to light up my life with your wisdom, humor, and love. Even now, I close my eyes and see your radiant smile, hear your joyful laugh, and feel your presence guiding me. Sometimes I still think the phone will ring, and it will be you, calling to share a laugh or plan our next adventure. You were always up for a little mischief, and our escapades are some of my most treasured memories. Like the time you convinced me to fake faint in Mr. Henderson’s office so he’d realize it was 10:30 at night and we needed to go home. I’ll never forget the look on his face when I dramatically hit the floor—and how you had to stifle your laugh to keep from giving us away. Then there were those “hangry” moments when you’d demand a burger from Marie’s to calm the beast. I knew better than to test your patience when hunger hit, so I’d make the run and come back armed with your favorite meal. And let’s not forget the time I dressed up as you for Halloween, perfectly outfitted in heels, makeup, and even a cigarette. Your laughter when you saw me was worth every minute I spent perfecting your signature look. But perhaps the funniest of all was the morning you called me EARLY, waking me up in a panic. I thought something terrible had happened, but instead, you blurted out, “I’m pregnant.” Pregnant! At 40! All I could do was laugh, thinking it had to be a prank. But no, you were serious—prego at 40, as you put it. We laughed so hard we cried, and that memory still makes me smile. You weren’t just my partner in crime; you were my compass, guiding me through life with your love and wisdom. You taught me to embrace authenticity, find joy in the small things, and never take myself too seriously. You cheered me on when I succeeded, called me out when I needed it, and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. As Celine Dion sang, “You gave me faith 'cause you believed.” You gave me strength, courage, and the confidence to face life head-on. I carry you with me in everything I do—in the way I approach challenges, the way I find humor in the chaos, and the way I cherish the people I love. Thank you for choosing to be more than my aunt. Thank you for being my confidante, my cheerleader, my voice of reason, and my constant source of laughter. I am who I am because of you, and I vow to honor your legacy every day. I love you, Aunt Felecia. You’ll always be with me, in my heart and in every step I take. Until we meet again.
