Life story
Mary Beth (Boehnke) Graham was born April 28, 1974, in Mason City to Mark and Roseann Boehnke. A 1992 graduate of Garner-Hayfield High School, she went on to earn a B.A. in Communication Studies from Central College in 1996. Her passion for serving others was sparked during an internship at StreetWise in Chicago, later leading her to join the Lutheran Volunteer Corps and work at a women’s homeless shelter.
In 1998, Mary married her high school sweetheart, Matt Graham. While living in San Antonio, she worked with the homeless at Christian Assistance Ministry. Their daughter, Maddie, was born in 2002, followed by their son, Mason, in 2005 after moving back to Garner.
Mary dedicated her career to nonprofits and journalism, eventually finding deep purpose at GoServ Global, where she served as Development Coordinator and led mission trips to Haiti and Peru. A founding leader of the IF:Garner event, Mary was passionate about sharing God’s love with women in her community.
She loved her family, faith, photography, writing, worship music, and mission work. Mary was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
