Life story

June Elizabeth Geisler Mihaly, 86 years old, of Connellsville, passed away on Tuesday March, 10, 2015 at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. A native of Connellsville, June was born on July 25, 1928. She is predeceased by her husband, Peter Mihaly, her parents, Stephen and Laura (Helms) Pellish of So. Connellsville and her only sibling, a brother Eugene Pellish who resided in Sacramento, CA. June was a working mother with eleven children and held a variety of jobs until finding her true calling as a licensed practical nurse. She brought comfort to others with her private duty practice. Her patients loved her gentle bedside manner. Other jobs she performed over the years included being a cook for Bud Murphy’s in Connellsville, where they still rave about her Mulligan Stew recipe. She also worked for Westmoreland County Community College, Agency for the Aging, where she was a caseworker, organizing friendly visitors for seniors in need of assistance, company or services. When asked how she balanced it all, she would respond with a warm smile, “All you need is love”. In addition to motherhood, which was her proudest achievement, June was a published author or poetry and a children’s book entitled “Katie the Kite”. Later in life, while residing at Harmon House, June would interview the other residents and publish stories in the local paper about their biographies. She wanted the public to know that the people you see in nursing homes were once vibrant, youthful men and women with interesting stories to share. June is survived by all eleven of her grieving children whom she loved, supported, and inspired to follow their dreams; Carol Ambrosini Skinner (Jay) of Savannah, GA, James Peter (Carol) Mihaly of Enon Valley, Margaret Bauer Emerick (John Koshar) of Mt. Pleasant, Catherine (James) Stephens of Mt. Airy, MD, Judith (Kerry) Bell of Mt. Pleasant, Patricia (Duane) Pearson of Mesa, AZ, Mark Mihaly of VA Beach, VA, Ramona (David) McIntire of Connellsville, John (Deanna) Mihaly of Chesapeake, VA Shirley (Tom) Levendosky of Scottdale, and Thomas Mihaly of Rantoul, IL. June was proud of her 33 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. June was active as the captain of her Bud Murphy’s women’s bowling team, member of the Eagle’s Ladies Auxiliary, parishioner and choir singer at Immaculate Conception Church, and an avid Scrabble and Bingo player. She enjoyed trips visiting her children scattered across the country and her brother in CA.
