Favorite Memories of Tex from Benji Hickerson
Benji was one of the friends asked to speak at Tex's funeral service. This is a list he shared.
Tex was born October 10, 1998 - the youngest of the four Higginbotham children and the only son. Tex wasn't his actual name. It was a nickname accidentally given him by his sister while he was still at the hospital. But he was everything Tex... trucks, tractors, guns, football... He loved his sisters and his friends. He loved scouting, hunting, playing sports (mainly football) and hanging out with his friends. He was perpetually goofy and never seemed to run out of silly expressions. He was a hugger and hugged everyone all the time. He could gut his own deer but loved scented candles. He was a gift-giver, often asking if he could bring something to his teachers. With everything going for him that really mattered - a loving family and extended family, good friendships, fun activities - it remains a mystery to us why he thought ending his life was the best option to his struggles. He made a permanent decision to a temporary problem. But somehow, in the midst of the confusion and agony of his death, we cling to the truth of the sovereignty and goodness of God. He loved Jesus and is with him right now... RIGHT NOW as you read this! We rest in the hope of Heaven that we will see him again eventually. He is deeply missed. Every. Day. "Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139:16
