Frances (Fay) Elizabeth Fradley
Newspaper Obituary
Fay Long, age 56, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7th, 1995 at the Souris District Hospital. Fay was born on June 6th, 1939 to Harry and Lily Fradley of Souris, Manitoba.
She lived all her life in Souris and received her education there. On April 18th, 1959 she married Albert Long. Together they had one daughter and one son.
Fay worked 36 years for Manitoba Telephone System in Souris and Brandon offices. In Souris, she started as a switchboard operator and worked her way up to Chief Operator. When Souris received dial telephone she transferred to Brandon and was a payroll comptroller until her retirement in 1993.
When Fay retired, she and Ab purchased a cabin at Oak Lake Resort. She treasured the time that she spent at the cabin with family and friends. Everyone was always made welcome either at her home or cabin and she loved having her children’s friends drop in anytime.
Fay was a warm woman who always thought of others first. Seldom during her eleven months of illness did she complain, but went out of her way to make everyone feel comfortable dealing with it.
Fay was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church and recently served on the Vestry. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Royal Purple.
Fay was predeceased by her parents and will be lovingly remembered by her husband Albert Long; daughter Fran (Bryan Jackson); son Cliff (Myrna) Long; grandchildren Marlie and Bill Jackson; sisters Dorothy Swaenepoel and Marie (Bert) Peaslee; sister-in-law Viola Logan; brother-in-law Carl (Rose) Long and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Her family was her LIFE! To say she was proud of Marlie and Bill would be an understatement and her greatest joy was to see Fran and Cliff happily married.
An Anglican service was held on July 10th at St. Paul’s United Church, under the guidance of Rev. Ray McMullan. All present were considered honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Fay worked 36 years for Manitoba Telephone System in the Souris and Brancon offices. She loved her work and made very many friends through it. 1.5 years ago, Fay retired from MTS and her and Albert purchased (Long’s Liberty Lodge) a cabin at Oak Lake Resort, where she and her family spent many quality hours together.
Fay spent many days at local garage or auction sales where she always got some sort of “bargain” whether she needed it or not. She was always thinking of others first. She was a woman one could always depend on if a job needed to be done; and when she took on a task either at work or home, she went to all lengths to have the job well done efficient and took pride in everything she did.
At her retirement she was presented with her stapler, bronzed and mounted because it had been with her so long and she efficiently stapled notes to everything so it would be perfect.
Fay was known for her ironing of clothes. Everyone kidded her because she ironed EVERYTHING (sheets, socks, underwear, towels).
Fay loved her pets and always babied them. Best fed animals in town. She opened her home to her children’s friends who she referred to as her “adopted children.” Everyone was made welcome!
Fay was always taking photos of her family, pets or scenery. She has volumes on her grandchildren! They were her pride and joy!
She was a member of the Legion Axillary and just recently received a 20 year perfect attendance award with the Royal Purple.
She never complained of her illness but went out of her way to make family and friends feel comfortable dealing with it.
Her family was her LIFE and her greatest joy was to have seen her children happily married.
