Mary Jeanne Munsterman
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" 2 Corinthians 12:9
Mary Jeanne “MJ” Munsterman loved life and it showed. She was energetic in her unconditional love she had for her family and others. She always had others’ interests in mind. MJ was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2008 and won eight years of survival in a heroic effort to continue to love and care for her family. Her courage and the intensity of her love for her family and the Lord have inspired many who came to know her.
Mary Jeanne grew up in Morris, Minnesota on the Mahoney family farm. She attended Morris High School and was a cheerleader. She married Scott Munsterman on July 25th, 1981. While Scott was working on his doctorate, MJ finished cosmetology training in the St. Paul area. They moved to Brookings in January of 1985 where they established practice. MJ worked in the practice for the first few years until she gave birth to their third daughter. It was at that point she dedicated her life as a stay at home mom. Her commitment and love for her family was fierce, her compassion genuine. She nurtured those around her and we loved it.
Mary Jeanne’s faith in the Lord was strong. Her authentic love for the Lord was not a secret. Every day, God’s unconditional love touched and impacted those who had the opportunity to be with her. She never sought the limelight, but instead she always looked for ways to serve behind the scenes. She was instrumental in starting 20’s Diner, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school, and hosted bible fellowship groups. Her passion for children at home and in her community fueled her desire to serve in missions, including the opportunity to serve in Cambodia. Her family and others called her the “hostess with the most-est” and “MJ Lovin’ Life”. It was at Gracepoint Wesleyan Church that Scott and MJ would tell you their family grew and thrived in their faith.
