Lyle Dean Johnson was born on July 21, 1936 on a farm near Carthage, South Dakota, to Ernest and Edna (Larson) Johnson. As a boy they moved to a farm in the Clear Lake, SD area and he attended school in Clear Lake. He served in the Army from November 3, 1954 until November 2, 1956. After his discharge he returned to the Clear Lake area. He was united in marriage to Donna Hoftiezer on September 7, 1968 at Castlewood, SD. They lived in Watertown and then Trent, SD before moving to the present farm east of Castlewood in 1970. He was employed at OJ's Eggs in Clear Lake where he died from an accident on Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 1987. He reached to age of 50 years, nine months and fifteen days.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Olson-Reid Post 250, American Legion of Castlewood and Eagles Lodge in Watertown.
Lyle is survived by is wife, Donna or rural Castlewood; SD, his son, Melvin of Natchez, MS, two daughters, Sharon and Nicole, and a son, Troy, all at home; three brothers, Mervin (Elvina) Johnson of Watertown, SD. Dennis (Jewel) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, and Delbert Johnson of Eljebel, CO; four sisters, (Lorraine) Mrs. Morris Thompson of Austin, CO, (Marianne) Mrs. Chet Richardson of Monticello, MN, (Arlene) Mrs. James TeGantvoort of Brandt, SD and (Janice) Mrs. Roger Farel of Apple Valley, MN; his father-in-law, Arey Hoftiezer of rural Castlewood, SD and several nieces and nephews.
When Lyle Dean Johnson was born on July 21, 1936, in Carthage, South Dakota, his father, Ernest, was 43 and his mother, Edna, was 26. He married Frances Ann Norris on March 2, 1958 and they had one son together. He then married Donna Rae Hoftiezer on September 7, 1968 and they had three children together. He died on May 6, 1987, in Clear Lake, South Dakota, at the age of 50.
