He was the first of five children born to Roger and Lois (Herbolsheimer) Polt, of Pierce, Nebraska, now of Marshalltown. He attended grade school in the area of his birth and graduated from Audubon (Iowa) High School with the Class of 1988. Fritz went on to attend Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. He graduated from Wayne State College, located in Wayne, Nebraska, in 1995, with Bachelor of Arts in Sports Information and a minor in Journalism. In the Fall of 1995, he took part in an internship in the Sports Information Department at Iowa State University in Ames. He also interned for USA Today and other sports affiliates in the Fall of 1996. In 1997, he accepted a position as a sports reporter with the Times-Republican in Marshalltown. From this union Fritz gained a stepdaughter, Kristen Clara Holm. They returned to Marshalltown in September of that year, residing there the remainder of their married life.
Following three rounds of chemotherapy and one round of radiation from John Stoddard Cancer Center and Mission Cancer + Blood at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Fritz remained at home until moving to Southridge Specialty Care Center in October 2024.
Fritz was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Henry Church, and the Marshalltown Knights of Columbus Council 966. In his free time, he enjoyed watching Nebraska Cornhuskers football, Cleveland Guardians baseball (he still called them the Indians), NASCAR racing, and collecting baseball cards along with other sports memorabilia. One year in Heaven
One year ago today I said “I Love You” for the last time to my husband, Fritz Polt, as he gained his wings and went to Heaven to be with God. 😢🙏🏻 He was a great, fun loving guy, husband and stepfather. First year anniversary in heaven...
Today we are gathering at your columbarium. Jake and Amanda plan to FaceTime with us as we gather to remember you. I think prayers will be offered. Tony, Addie, Mom and I will do our best to stay pleasant but reserved. It'll be a solemn time, but as always, we will recall times we shared with you and laugh and cry. You know us, Fritz. We love you and miss you so much! Doggone it I wish you were here yet. But God's in charge and we are brought to realize our own temporary time on this planet. So, thanks for bringing us together in your memory. May God reward you for your many wonderful good deeds! We love you!

Happy 22nd Anniversary
Fritz and I would have been married 22 years today. Lots friends and family were there to help celebrate—and to help Fritz watch a Nebraska Cornhusker football game in the reception hall kitchen during the after party. It was a beautiful Nebraska day and a wonderful celebration. I will always love you, Fritz Polt! 🥰❤️😘
