Mason Milo Schuster
"Live like someone left the gate open"
Mason Milo Schuster, at the tender age of 19 years old, began his journey to Heaven on December 10, 2023, at his home outside of New Rockford, ND and later gave his body to God as a hero on an Honor
Walk down the long hallway at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND, on December 14, 2024 surrounded by many
grieving family and friends. Mason blessed 4 people with the gracious gift of life, donating his heart,
lungs, pancreas, liver, kidneys and vessels. May his recipients all feel blessed through our great loss and Mason’s giving
nature.
Mason was born to John and Jean (Lies) Schuster on March 31, 2004 in Jamestown, ND. A miracle from heaven, Mason was such a blessing. He joined two sisters, Haley and Ashley, and later became a big brother to Mathew. He was raised in New Rockford and attended school at New Rockford-Sheyenne Public school thru his sophomore year (2020). He began his junior year at Carrington High School, along with his younger brother. Mason truly made a name for himself in the new school, making friends easily and becoming a very social young man. He found acceptance and encouragement, challenge and opportunities in his new educational space. Mason graduated from CHS in May of 2022.
As a youngster, Mason participated in numerous activities including Tai Kwon Do, bowling, 4-H, 4H
shooting sports, basketball, football, wrestling to name a few. Tai Kwon Do was a sport that Mason really excelled in. He made some of the most wonderful friendships while attending classes 2 times a week, which led to lifetime friends. The family took a number of trips for tournaments showcasing his talents, as he earned many awards. This mentally and bodily challenging sport greatly influenced
Mason’s discipline and his ability to be so agile in his every day life. He was always jumping off of stuff
and tumbling to his next forward movement. Always active, always alert, and always using his ability for
“good”. Bowling was also a sport that Mason, not only excelled in, but that he attended weekly his whole childhood. Mason earned many badges/pins thru his bowling career. He and some of his best friends, like Mathew, Zander and Grant, often went bowling as “adults” at nearby bowling alleys to keep
the fun going.
A family favorite event that Mason also excelled in was shooting clay pigeons and targets. He would keep on until his shoulder was bruised. He began shooting as soon as he was old enough to hold a bb gun. Mason never misused any firearm. He was always so responsible with them, and was often reminding people around him of the rules and etiquette of handling a firearm. He had an amazing ability with perfect eye-hand coordination. This talent was recognized on the range while he participated in 4-h shooting sports, as well as while hunting for deer, ducks and doves.
Of all of the amazing things he adventured, Mason’s most treasured time was spent fishing. He could
work with his equipment and fish any time or day of the week. He just loved the art of choosing the right hook and bait for the situation to land the big lunkers. As school project one year, he and a couple
of friends constructed a floating barge/pontoon and docked in in the nearby James River along our
property. Mason, his brother and numerous friends spent a lot of time fishing and swimming off of this floating barge. The boys even took Mom and Dad out on the river for an evening supper date on the
water like a riverboat/ “Loveboat” date. The time and memories spent hanging out at the river was immeasurable. Many fish and crawdads were caught on the river…and after he obtained his driver’s license, he was able to venture off fishing at many more fishing holes. His most memorable fishing adventure was in the spring of 2023 as he and a few of his close friends went to the ND Confluence to fish for Paddlefish. Mason snagged an 82 pound whopper!
Mason loved the world around him. He would often take snapshots of the beautiful things he found in nature….a sunrise, a sunset, streams/rivers, flowers and butterflies, his dog…just about everything. He found beauty in so much around him, and he took the time to enjoy and appreciate it. Mason’s kind,
soft nature allowed him to see things that not a lot of young men his age see. His kind, tender heart was
mature beyond most.
Mason worked numerous jobs including for the Cendak fertilizer department, a local horse trainer, assisting with the family businesses (M & M Bait and Schuster RV Park), and was working at Dakota
Growers Pasta Company and with Kim’s Septic Service at the time of his passing. Mason loved to work and loved working with the people he worked with. He had a way of making work fun, so to him, even tho the work may have been difficult and not always pleasant, he worked with a good attitude which made work fun. Work never stopped mason from finding enjoyment in every day. Work hard, play harder.
Mason was a kind, hardworking, caring, stubborn, yet unbelievable funny young man. He never failed to make people smile and let them know how much they meant to him, no matter what. Family and friends meant everything to Mason, and he will continue to watch over all of us and continue spreading his love. And along with his love for nature, came the love for his girlfriend, Hadley. She was a very special part of Mason's life.

Our families are heartbroken without Mason. His time on earth here was cut far too short. There will never be an explanation for why Mason took God’s plan into his own hands, until we see him on the other side. We love and miss you Mason….we are forever broken hearted that you are gone.
“Whenever you miss me; Take a moment from a memory; That you and I once shared. Tell nobody our secret it’s Just for you and I….Share a tear and then a smile. Me and you together for just a little while.”
