I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7
Stephen Brent Sloan, age 46, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, with his wife by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Sanford, NC on July 10, 1976, to Allen McCormick Sloan and Debbye Wood Sloan. Brent was a graduate of Lee Senior High School, class of 1994 and Appalachian State University, Class of 1998. Brent was a dedicated employee of Sanford Contractors for almost 24 years, where he served as the HR Director and Head of Safety. Brent was also well known in the soccer community. Brent was a head coach and assistant coach for SASL for many years and assisted with the Lee Christian School Varsity Soccer Team on occasion. If you ask around in the soccer community, Brent was SASL. He was the face of the league and helped lay the foundation for what the league has become. Brent was dedicated to giving back to his community and the game. He was a coach, a trainer, a SASL board member, an ambassador for soccer in the Sanford area. More than anything, he was a worker – a hard worker who was at the fields early in the morning and late in the evening; one who could go from the pitch to the board meetings to fundraisers with ease. He served as president of the board for many years. He also served as SASL Director of Coaching, Travel Soccer Director, Travel Team Coach and Recreation Coach. Brent had a “passion and commitment” to teaching the game to young people. Brent Sloan epitomized the phrase “job well done” and his loss will be felt throughout the community.
Brent is survived by his wife of 13 years, Teshia Fore Sloan; children, Brandon Michael Jones (Marisa Rosser) and Beckett Greyson Sloan, both of the home; parents, Allen and Debbye Sloan of Sanford; in-laws, Jerry and Mary Fore of Sanford; brother, Greg Sloan and wife, Rhonda of Hampstead; brother-in-law, Shane Fore and wife, Jennifer of Raleigh; nephews, Satchel Sloan and Jackson Fore and a niece, Emma Fore.
