In loving memory of
Jeffrey Alan Watterworth
Jeffrey Alan Watterworth, 36, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on November 24, 2024, after a courageous and faith-filled battle with cancer. His life, though far too short, was marked by love, passion, faith, and an indomitable spirit that left an enduring legacy for all who knew him.
Born in 1988, Jeff graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor’s degree in finance and business. A thrill seeker at heart, he had a passion for driving fast, poker—earning accolades in multiple cash tournaments—and life’s simple pleasures like Dr Pepper, online gaming, pickleball, and coffee.
As a young athlete, Jeff excelled in trampoline and double mini competitions, becoming a world-class gymnast who represented the USA Gymnastics World Team. He earned numerous local, state, and national titles. His competitive career was tragically cut short at 13 due to ulcerative colitis, but his determination and zest for life never wavered.
Jeff’s inquisitive mind and deep compassion made him unforgettable. He loved to learn, never shied away from meaningful discussions, and always sought the best for those he cared about. His booming, contagious laugh could light up a room, and his openness inspired others to grow, share, and draw closer to God.
Jeff’s faith journey was extraordinary. While his relationship with God blossomed through the love and support of the NewSong First United Methodist Church community, where he and his family found a second family.
The NewSong community played an essential role in Jeff’s life, especially during his battle with cancer. They exemplified what it means to be the body of Christ, providing unwavering love, prayer, and support. Through them, Jeff grew not only in faith but also in purpose.
In his final months he felt a deep conviction to convert to Catholicism. This decision, made with courage and clarity, reflected his steadfast commitment to God. Jeff received his sacraments on a hospital bed and his confirmation at home, leaving a legacy of unwavering faith.
Jeff met his soulmate, Alveza, in college through mutual friends. With his “four P’s”—persistence, patience, proximity, and prayer—he won her heart. They married on October 9, 2017, and welcomed their beloved son, Trent, in April 2022. Being a father was Jeff’s proudest accomplishment. He stayed home during Trent’s first year to build an unbreakable bond with his son, one that will be cherished forever.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Alveza Watterworth; his son, Trent Watterworth; his father, Randolph Watterworth; and his sister, Nicole Watterworth. He was preceded in death by his mother, Loren Watterworth.
