Tara Michelle Shermerhorn
Today (Feb 3) is a very sad Calendar Day in our Family. Every day is so difficult but today marks 10 years since the violent death of our Tara, my Daughter.
Tara Michelle Shermerhorn was born at St. Rita’s Hospital in Sydney N.S. on 10 December, 1979. On February 3rd, 2011 in a deserted forest area of Horsethief Basin near Crown King, Yavapai County, Arizona, Tara’s life was taken by her ex boyfriend. She was 31 years old.
It is imperative that the loss of Tara’s life and all those taken by violence before and since, be remembered and held up to each of us as a reminder to Step Up & Speak Out against any such violence. And that in any relationship where demeaning, belittling, controlling and mentally and/or physically abusive behaviour is occurring, it is unacceptable. Zero Tolerance – Period.
My simple but so important Ask today is that each person affirm that commitment to Step Up & Speak Out. In any conversation of relationship abuse, you Step Up and declare your own Zero Tolerance to such behaviour. In any case where someone is in need, you Step Up and offer assistance. And last, in ALL cases of physical abuse – please - do not hesitate 1 second to call 911.
Thank you for reading. Please Step Up and Speak Out – for Tara and all other Victims. (Every voice adds strength to the message so if you wish to “share” outward, please do)
