Michael Seth Marsh
Philippians 3:13-14 KJV 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Seth was born August 28, 1991. Throughout his early childhood he was on the quiet side. Of course, as he grew up into a teen/adult you would have never guessed that! In middle school, he was so shy and quiet that his big brother, Stephen, would often have to introduce him and speak for him in his classes. He grew out of that and turned out to be very outspoken. When he was a young boy he asked Jesus into his heart and got saved and at 13 years old he announced his calling to preach. Seth preached his very first message July 2, 2004- Titus 2:2-7. Some years later he faced some trials but God was always close to his heart.
At 18 years old he met his wife, Katy, in September 2009 and they began dating that November. They faced some battles in their early years together but had such a strong love for each other. In June 2012, they had a daughter together, Braelynn. He was 20 at the time. She was his world and his “babygirl”! She was 5 years old when he passed. On July 11, 2015 Seth and Katy got married in a small ceremony with some family & friends close to home and then on October 17, 2015 they had their big ceremony/celebration with all their family and friends there. They were married for 2.5 years before his death and together for 8.5 years. In December 2016 they had a son, Issac. He was 25 at that time. He was so excited to have a fishing and hunting buddy! Issac was 13 months old when he passed.
In 2015, Seth had stopped running from what God had called him to do and started preaching again. Near the end of 2016 Seth was asked to go preach at Russell Gap Baptist Church. They were looking for a pastor and in February 2017 they asked Seth to be the pastor of the church. On March 25, 2017, Seth was ordained at Liledoun Baptist Church. It was a great honor to him and he loved the people at Russell Gap very much. They were very near and dear to his heart. He pastored there for exactly a year at the time of his death.
Seth had many other passions as well besides sharing the gospel. He absolutely loved hunting and fishing. He was avid in both. He loved sharing these passions with his wife, his dad, his brother, cousins, his best friend, Koty and other friends as well. He loved spending time in Cherokee with his family trout fishing. Rivers, lakes, streams or the beach you would always see him with a fishing pole in his hand. Anytime he could go hunting during the seasons he would be out in the woods, too. He was so excited to take his kids hunting and teach them all about it. He was never able to do that, sadly. Thankfully, however, he was able to fish with his daughter and got to watch her reel in her first bass! But unfortunately, he never got that chance with his son but Issac loves fishing so much as he’s gotten older, Seth would be so proud. Seth loved football. He played when he was younger but enjoyed watching it on TV with family. His favorite team was the San Diego Chargers (now the LA Chargers). Seth had such an infectious laugh and smile. He was fiercely protective of his family especially over his wife, kids and mama. He loved playing pranks on his brother, cousins and parents. Really anyone he was close to! But he also didn’t mind being on the other side of a prank. He loved to share in the laughs with everyone. He was very outspoken and spoke his mind, almost to a fault. He was a hardworking man. He was adventurous and loved the outdoors. Seth had a big heart, though he had a tough exterior sometimes. He was very close to his dad (Steve) and mom (Becky). He loved and was close to his mawmaw, Betty. His two cousins, Jordan and Aaron, and him were raised more like brothers and he loved them as such. His loved his aunt, Bobbi and uncle, Scott. He had so many nieces and nephews (some he’s never gotten to meet) that he loved very much. His brother, Stephen, was his best friend and he loved him so much. Always stuck up for him no matter what. You know the saying “I can talk about my family but no one else better”, those were words he truly lived by. Of course, he loved giving all the guys a hard time but he undoubtedly loved his family and no matter what, no matter who it was, Seth would always stand up for them! Seth was an amazing daddy and his kids were two of his greatest blessings in his life. God came first and foremost but absolutely nothing and no one was more important to him than his family. He had so many friends that he grew up with or gained as an adult that he cherished and loved. If you were on Seth’s good side you had his love and loyalty. You always knew where you stood with him. Good or bad. To know Seth was to love him and he was very much loved by so many.
More than anything he loved God and sharing what God did for him in his life and where He brought him from. I believe that if there was anything he could tell us to share on his behalf it would be that he would want everyone to know how Jesus can save you. How he can save you from hell for an eternity in Heaven. That no one is ever to far gone for Jesus. That Jesus is and will always be the best friend that you could ever have. God can heal your brokenness, your sadness, your anger and your bitterness. He can bring you out the depths of darkness into the light that is salvation. That God is mercy, God is forgiveness, God is faithfulness and God is love.
