Yoneko “Kay” Moeller
Yoneko "Kay" Moeller, age 53, of Shalimar, Fla., passed into a better life Wednesday, July 27, 2005, in a local hospital with her family by her side.
She was born in Biei Town, Hokkaido, Japan on Jan. 6, 1952 and graduated from nursing school in 1970. She came to the U.S. in 1971 after meeting her husband Bill who was in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Misawa, and became a proud U.S. citizen in 1973. She was employed by the Army Air Force Exchange Service for over 20 years, most recently as a Concept Manager for Starbucks and Taco Bell.
She loved her customers and fellow AAFES employees as much as they loved her. She had many friends, too many to count. She traveled all over the world with her husband and the Air Force for 22 years and loved traveling so much that the two of them continued to travel as much as possible after he retired from active duty.
Kay battled Angiosarcoma eight years ago and was believed to have won the fight, but sadly it returned three months ago. She fought the cancer hard, with persistence and even humor as she did everything in life. Kay's family would like to thank all of her friends, neighbors and relatives who visited and spent precious time with her near the end. They would also like to thank the loving and caring nurses at Twin Cities Hospital, the Fort Walton Beach Cancer Care Unit and Covenant Hospice (you know who you are).
Kay was preceded in death by her parents Shizuko and Takeichi Tanimoto; her sister, Sadako Ueda; and her mother-in-law Jane Moeller.
She is survived by her husband, William Moeller Jr. who works as a Civil Service acquisition manager at Eglin AFB; her daughters, Michelle Moeller-Frizzell and Maria Moeller; her grandchildren, Matthew Moeller, Rhiannon Frizzell, and Brianna Banks; her father-in-law, William Moeller, Sr., all of Shalimar, her sister and brother-in-law, Kyoko and Masami Toshima; her brother and sister-in-law, Takayuki and Junko Tanimoto and her brother-in-law, Hiroshi Ueda, all of Japan, and her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Jane and Jim Powers, Pat and Rick Bevilacqua and Dave Moeller, all of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kay's earthly remains were cremated on July 29, 2005, according to her wishes. A commemorative funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach with Father Cherup officiating. Following at noon will be a celebration of her life at the Boat House Landing Restaurant in Valparaiso.
One of her last requests was that we not grieve over her death, rather to celebrate her life. Kay gave so many people reason to be blessed, to have known her love of life and her dedication to everything she did and everyone she loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice of Niceville or the National Cancer Society in her name.
