Jamie Hunter Boone
Jamie Boone was the youngest of five boys and grew up in Monticello, Illinois. Jamie is the son of Johnny and Anita Boone and brother to Jared, Jake, Josh, and Jesse. Jamie is an uncle to Amos, Esther, Margaret (Margot) and Jude. Jamie was also a loving boyfriend to Isa and a loyal friend who deeply valued the people in his life. He was known for his caring heart, sarcastic sense of humor, and ability to make people feel comfortable and included. He had a way of connecting with people that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Jamie graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) on May 14, 2023. He was about to begin an internship with KPMG in Chicago as an audit intern and had also been accepted into the Gies College of Business at U of I to pursue his master’s degree in accounting. During his time at U of I, Jamie was very active in the Adventure Club and proudly served as a captain of the Scarabs. Jamie was also a National Honor Society member and participated in his high school’s Life Savers student mentoring program.
Many people remember Jamie’s unique handshake, where he would lightly tickle someone’s palm with his two partially amputated fingers — the result of a childhood accident. It was one of the many ways Jamie made people laugh and instantly feel at ease.
Although Jamie encouraged others to seek help and push through difficult moments, he quietly struggled with depression himself. Jamie lost his battle with depression on May 30, 2023, at the age of 21. His loss created a ripple effect far beyond what he could have ever imagined.
In Jamie’s memory, his parents created The Jamie Boone Project to help start conversations about mental health and suicide awareness/intervention and prevention while providing tools and resources to those who may be struggling.
