Life story

Steven William Worley was born on December 7, 1961, in National City, San Diego, California. He was the third child of Alfred Dale Worley and Melva Jean Worley. Growing up, Steve lived in several Southern California cities, including Palmdale, Redondo Beach, and Carson.

Steve attended Carson High School, and after graduating, he went to work for Dick Dulmage as a Maytag repairman, servicing coin-operated washing machines throughout the South Bay.

On June 25, 1982, Steve married Crystal in a little chapel in Lawndale, California. Together, they built a life and a family that would always mean more to Steve than anything else. They had three children, Stevie Jr., Andrew, and Victoria, and later welcomed their bonus son, Frankie, into their family after the war in 2003.

As the years passed, their family continued to grow. Steve became a father-in-law when Stevie married Clarissa, Andrew married Nicki, and Frankie married Lindsay. Then came one of his greatest joys—becoming Papa. In 2005, he welcomed his first grandson, Nathan William, followed by the twins, Lucie and Frankie, and then Jack, Dane, and Ella. Steve loved being a Papa and absolutely adored his grandchildren.

In the early 1980s, Steve began working for Chevron. In 1986, he transferred to the Valero Refinery, where he would spend the remainder of his career until retiring in 2022. During his years at the refinery, Steve joined the Fire Department and Rope Rescue Team. Through years of dedication and service, he eventually became Battalion Commander—a position he was very proud to hold.

Retirement didn't last long for Steve. He simply wasn't someone who liked sitting still. He joined Trinity Law School as their maintenance man and truly enjoyed his time there. Eventually, he also began helping at the front desk, where his friendly personality allowed him to get to know many of the professors, staff, and students. Steve was liked by so many people there, and I know he is deeply missed.

In 2022, Steve and Crystal experienced the unimaginable loss of their only daughter, Victoria, at just 21 years old. Losing his princess devastated Steve in a way from which he never fully recovered. Yet through those incredibly difficult years, his faith in Jesus sustained him. He held tightly to the hope that Victoria was not gone forever and that one day they would see her again.

On September 22, 2025, at 3:20 in the morning, Steve unexpectedly went home to Heaven.

And now, the father who missed his princess so terribly is with her again.

I can only imagine Steve and Victoria together, exploring the great heavenly realm and worshiping their Lord side by side. The separation that caused so much heartache here on earth is over for them.

For those of us who remain, their absence is deeply felt. But because of the same faith that sustained Steve after losing Victoria, we know this is not the end of our story.

One day, we will be reunited with them.

And what a glorious day that will be.

One Year Without You

One year. Somehow an entire year has passed without you. There are days when it feels like you have been gone forever...yet sometimes I still expect to hear your voice, your laugh, or the sound of you walking through the door. So much has changed in a year, and yet a part of me still feels as though I am standing in the same place I was the day you left. This year has been filled with so many firsts without you—holidays, birthdays, our anniversary, family gatherings, regular days and quiet, lonely nights. I watched the grandchildren grow and wished you were here to see them. Your kids have carried losing you, your parents have carried your loss, your sisters, family and friends all miss you! And I have learned how to live a life I never imagined living without you. After 44 years there is no simply “moving on.” Instead, I am learning how to carry you with me. I see you in our kids and grandchildren. I hear you in the stories we tell. I find you in photographs, handwritten notes, familiar places, favorite foods, songs, jokes and a thousand little memories woven throughout my life. One of my greatest fears after losing you was that, as time passed, people might begin to forget—the sound of your voice, your ridiculous sense of humor, your kindness, your tender heart, the way you loved your family, and the way you loved Jesus. But this year has shown me something beautiful: you are not forgotten. Honey, your life mattered. You mattered. This year has also taught me that grief and hope can exist in the same heart. I can miss you more than words can express and still believe what you always reminded me: our hope is all we need; it will sustain us. My faith in Jesus has carried me through days when I didn't think I could keep going...and because of that faith, I don't believe our story ended the day you died...I believe you are home...I believe you are with Victoria...andI believe there will come a day when there are no more gravesites, no more anniversaries of loss and no more goodbyes. Like Andrew said, "no more, no more death...at least for a while!" Until I see you again...All my love, Crystal
