Douglas Edward Schwartz

Douglas E. Schwartz passed away peacefully in his home on March 29, 2014, at 94 years of age. He was born January 26, 1920, in San Jose, CA and he came to Utah in 1942. As part of the "greatest generation" Doug joined the Navy, assigned to the Marines. He served in Peleliu. When he returned home, he began a career with United Airlines moving to 9 states as his career progressed. He loved this career and retired in California as Director of Personnel having been with United for 37 years. Doug traveled the world and made friends everywhere he went. He was a great storyteller and loved for his good humor. He was a father whose family loved, admired and respected him for a life lived in honesty, service, and integrity. He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Thomas) Harmon and Christin (Leroy) Watson, 10 grandsons, Brett, Spencer, Michael, Tyler, Scott, Glenn, Douglas, Donald, Robert, Gregory, and 33 great grandchildren. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Edward and Lillian Elizabeth Hunt Schwartz, twin brothers, James Allen and John Preston Schwartz, an infant son and daughter, Douglas Mark, and Diana, and 3 wonderful wives whom he adored, Nancy Thomas, Ramona Schmidt, and Rayma Atkinson. Doug lived in the Legacy Retirement Residence for 11 years. He made many friends there and loved everything about this special place. Our deepest gratitude to Access Hospice for their kind, attentive care to our father in the last year of his life. About his death Doug said, "(My life) was full of love and laughter and a happy kind of busy that makes life worthwhile... and as I breathe my last, I feel sure it will really be a sigh of contentment."
Funeral services will be held Friday April 4th at 3:00 pm at the West Jordan Heritage 10th Ward Chapel 7645 South 3200 West, West Jordan, Utah. Interment, Santa Clara, CA Cemetery.
