““Scars don’t mean you’re broken. They just show you have grown. When you are lost, you are never alone. So raise your head high - don’t hide your light. You are a star that’s meant to shine so bright. Even when the world feels cold and rough, you’ve gotta know that you are enough. No matter what they say, you are worthy, loved in every way. Just hold on and don’t give up. Because you are, you are loved.”

Life story
Miles Phipps was born on October 21, 2010, to Rocky Phipps and Ashley Campbell. He grew up in Urbandale, Iowa. He attended Johnston Elementary School and later Urbandale High School, where he was part of the GSA Club, a place where he found community and connection.
Music was one of his greatest passions. With his guitar he composed melodies that were beautiful and uniquely his. He loved anything with wheels, including skateboarding, rollerblading, biking and trips to the skate park. He was proud to have completed RAGBRAI as part of the Dream Team. He also loved cooking and experimenting in the kitchen, enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, and looked forward to comicon and cosplay. The Urbandale Library was one of his favorite places. He had a tender love for animals, especially his beloved cat, Shevee.
Miles was thoughtful in the sweetest, most unexpected ways. He often gave people small gifts (such as worm on a string), little treasures he made or found, just to brighten their day. He was driven, unique, and proud of who he was. He was a proud transgender young man who believed in being his true self.
Miles passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 15. He is survived by his parents, Rocky and Ashley, his sister Aeva, grandfather, many aunts, uncles, family and friends. He is also survived by the family he made within the Dream Team. He made an impact far greater than his years.
Since his passing, and in his honor, The Kindness for Miles Project has been created. A project that donates instruments, bicycles and therapy to youth who are struggling on their mental health journey.
This was the first time I went to homecoming with someone, and it happened to be miles. He wore blue and I wore red, and I remember I gave him a rose he kept in his jacket pocket and forgot to take out after the dance.
I took so many photos of him and he ended up stealing my phone and taking videos of him running around while I chased him. Some of the most fun I’ve had in my life was with him.
