Life story

Thomas "Tom" M. Damewood was born in Vancouver, Washington on February 24, 1949, the son of Lloyd and Mildred (Wagner) Damewood. He grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from East Carolina University, where he played football. Before settling in New York, he also lived in Florida, Maryland and Colorado.

Tom built a long career in Human Resources and later became an accomplished businessman as the owner of Management Recruiters of the Mid Hudson Valley. On November 23, 1985, in Silver Spring, Maryland, he married Robin (Demsey) Damewood. Together they raised two daughters, Lauren and Michelle, and Tom later became a grandfather to Henry. He lived in the Mid Hudson Valley for over 28 years. He was a fierce defender of his family and did everything with their wellbeing in mind. Those who knew him remember his hospitality and his stories.

Tom was a people person who was always happy and rarely let things bother him, and his positivity was infectious. He was a diehard fan of the New York Yankees and the Washington Redskins, and a lover of all sports. He liked visiting wineries, going to concerts and traveling. He also enjoyed sitting on his deck during storms to listen to the thunder and the rain. Most of all, he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. He passed away peacefully on October 6, 2020, at the age of 71, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
