Life story

Thomas “Lynn” was born in Coalport, PA on October 29, 1931 to Charles P. & Margaret (Mills) Swauger. He was the youngest of their 5 children. Brother to Janet Ruth (Zittle), Bruce Charles, Helen Marjorie (Ginter) & Alice Mae (Jeffries). He was a lifelong resident of Coalport, PA.

Lynn was drafted into the Korean War on November 19, 1952 at the age of 21. After a two week boat ride to Korea, he landed in Pusan, where they fought their way north. He served a 16-month tour while in Korea, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant with the 24th SIG CO.

After the war, he married the love of his life, Mary “Louise” Tutko, on June 4, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gallitzin, PA.

They had five children together; Richard Bruce, Dennis Lynn, Janet Louise, Kevin Michael, and Amy Kathleen.

He made his living by being an auto mechanic to support his family. He was one of the best mechanics around to have work on your vehicle! He worked for Benjamin Coal Co. during the week and spent most evenings & weekends working on cars in his garage at the house. The local towns people were always getting him to work on their vehicles. He also owned and operated Lynn’s Amoco on Main Street, in Coalport borough during the 1970s/early 80s.
