Dakota Milo Cox
"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." We love and miss you so much Kota Bear.
Dakota Milo Cox July 24, 2025 – November 28, 2025
Dakota Milo Cox, affectionately known as "Kota Bear," was a profoundly loved son, a cherished younger brother to his twin siblings, and an unforgettable inspiration to every doctor, nurse, and caregiver who walked into his hospital room. Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and chronic lung disease, Kota Bear proved from his very first breath that he was a fierce Heart Warrior.
His brief 4-month journey was defined by an extraordinary will to live. He bravely underwent his first open-heart surgery for PA banding at just four days old, followed by the complex Norwood procedure less than a month later. Kota’s strength was tested in the ultimate way when he survived a 10-minute cardiac arrest and spent 53 harrowing days on VV ECMO life support. Defying the odds, fighting through constant infections, and enduring medical obstacles, he successfully came off ECMO after an arduous battle—proving to everyone the sheer depth of his resilience. Even as his tiny organs grew tired from the intense life-support machines and dialysis, his spirit never wavered. Kota Bear fought with unmatched bravery until his very last day, leaving behind a legacy of pure strength, absolute love, and the untamed heart of a true warrior.
