A memory of Robert

I grew up in Golden Hills with Robert and went to Elementary school together. We were in the same 5th and 6th grade classes and spent many years in Golden Hills as friends. We were very good friends back then and he was very close to my mom who adored him. I always admired and looked up to him in our youth and I have so many great stories and memories of Robert. He was a bad ass and someone who's friendship I cared about, even all these years later. A few quick stories. Our home was robbed and when Robert found out, he said no ones going to rob the Gier's and get away with it. He took off and came back soon after with everything that had been stolen. He showed up at my house one day with a stolen motorcycle that he wanted to show me. I felt bad for the motorcycle owner and so I told him he needed to return it. I said imagine how the owner feels walking out and finding their motorcycle gone. Eventually he decided I was right, and after riding around for the day, he took it back. Robert was our group leader and for the most part, nothing happened in our neighborhood without his permission. Another kid was really irritated at me and wanted to find me so he could beat the crap out of me. But Robert told him no, to leave me alone. He always had my back. We all considered Robert a badass but he also had heart. He was a great guy and I'm sorry we lost touch. I tried reaching out to him a few times via Facebook a few times but unfortunately he never responded. He'll never know how much I appreciated our friendship all those years ago and I would have loved to have continued that friendship had he responded. Whatever the reason he didn't is fine, but he'll still always have a special place in my heart.
