To To my beloved cousin, friend, and sister,
I promise not to be too long-winded as I pour my heart into this tribute honoring the memories that we shared growing up. There were so many memories that hold a special place in my heart, but let me speak on one profound moment that kind of shaped us into the women we became. It was a scorching hot summer day. You had just turned 11 years old and I was 13. We were all playing on your Dad’s junkyard. We came across a motorcycle without a motor in a pile of junk. We tried endlessly to free this motorcycle from the pile of rubbish. Just when we were about to give up, with exhaustion written on our faces, you suggested that we give it one more try. We all gave it a good tug and freed the motorcycle from its confinement of rubble. Happy that we freed the motorcycle, we jumped for joy and I said, “This accomplishment deserves for us to form a group” and we named it, “The Strong Girls.” Lol. Man, we had a full-fledged organization from that day forth. Every time we were faced with a challenge, we would say, “This calls for the super power of The Strong Girls.” We rode that motor-less motorcycle from the tip of the Loop almost to the end of the road, until it stopped going. With no brakes to stop us… something we would never let our children experience. I know for sure, I wouldn’t. Smh. That was too dangerous now that I think about it. That was one of many memories that I cherish of us. I miss you so much that it hurts. You will always hold a special place inside my heart. ❤️
