Life story

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Linda Sue Chenoweth passed away peacefully at her home Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 surrounded by her family. This was Linda’s second battle with cancer some 11 years apart.

The seventh of 8 children, Linda was born November 30, 1949 in Andalusia, Alabama the daughter of Ely and Lucille Aughtman. Linda went to school in Andalusia and then moved to Portsmouth, Virginia to live with her sister. While living in Virginia, she met a young Navy man, Merlin Chenoweth.

Linda and Merlin were married in Portsmouth, Virginia May 29, 1969 and moved back to Merlin’s hometown, Powell, Wyoming and then to Worland. In May of 1971 Linda and Merlin became proud parents of their first child Randall followed by his brother Tim in the summer of 1974.

Linda held several jobs while the boys were growing up including carhop at Bob’s Drive Inn, clerk at Big Horn Grocery, clerk at the retail department store Town and Country downtown Worland and even worked a couple of campaigns at Wyoming Sugar in the scale house. Linda enjoyed cleaning homes for many local residents. Linda worked for Dave and Char Asay for 28 years both housekeeping and lovingly helping to care for Char. Linda also cared for Helen Kienlen, in her last years.

Linda’s passion was child care. When living on Ta Bi drive she and Cindy Voss had daycare facilities right next door and enjoyed many a fun time with the children. Over the years Linda had plenty of opportunities to care for the little ones of the community and they loved her as much as she loved them. Linda’s illness took her strength, but never her smile as long as the little ones were around. Most recently, caring for Kale, Kyland and Kreelin Kienlen gave Linda much joy! They meant the world to her.

In her spare time Linda would often enjoy camping with family and friends, making photo quilts, collecting pig figurines or focusing on what she could make or buy, to help the kids she cared for enjoy their time with her more. While raising her boys Linda cheered them on through 4-H, FFA, band trips, sports and everything else little boys could think of to do. It wasn’t often you saw Linda without Merlin. Family was everything to Linda and she cherished time spent with her grandchildren. Linda loved the Lord and was a woman of great faith.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, sister Georgia, and brother Wayman.

Linda is survived by husband Merlin; sons Randy ( LeAnn) of Worland, Tim ( Dahlia) of Casper; step son Weston Barnes of Cody; grandchildren Teasa, Colton, Trevor, Caitlin, Kaeli, Baeli, and Ryan; brothers Bobby (Barbara) Aughtman, Truman (Marion) Aughtman, Royce ( Bonnie) Aughtman, and Larry ( Carolyn) Aughtman; sister JoAnn (Buddy) Grisset, and brother in-law Harold Lawson.

Saying Hi, getting some advice

Stopped up to see mom and have a talk with her! Get some advice. It was neat to see that somebody had put some flowers out for her.
