Bryce Isaac Melton
Bryce I. Melton was a brilliant, thoughtful, funny, and deeply loved young man who left an enormous mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
From the very beginning, Bryce had a personality all his own. As a baby and toddler, he hated sleep and never wanted to take a nap—he had far too much to see and learn. But even as a little boy, he was remarkably cautious. While other toddlers might climb on everything or do things without thinking, Bryce seemed to naturally consider the consequences first. He wasn’t a child his family had to worry about getting himself into trouble. He was observant, thoughtful, and careful from an early age.
Bryce had an incredible mind and a genuine love of learning, especially when it came to history. He could spend hours watching history videos on YouTube, preferring the longer, more detailed videos over the short clips that were so popular with other people his age. When asked once why he didn’t watch TikTok, his answer was simple: he preferred longer content on YouTube.
He was always learning something new. His mom would sometimes pull up history trivia questions on her phone when they were bored, only to be amazed by how much Bryce knew. He could identify flags from countries around the world, including obscure ones that most people would never recognize. His knowledge seemed endless.
When the whole internet was joking about how men supposedly think about the Roman Empire every day, his mom asked Bryce if he did. His answer was, of course, yes. In his mind, the Roman Empire wasn’t just a random obsession—it was a major part of history that shaped the world we live in. That was Bryce: curious, knowledgeable, and genuinely fascinated by how the past shaped the present.
And then there was the time, when he was still little, that he asked his mom who her favorite dictator was. She didn’t have one, so she simply asked him to tell her about his. That conversation became one of those funny, unforgettable Bryce memories that his family will carry forever.
Bryce loved gaming. Some of his favorite games included Fallout 4, Red Dead Redemption, and Minecraft. Once a year, he and his friends would return to a Minecraft world they had created together and spend several weeks building and exploring. One year, Bryce built a casino. In high school, he began PC gaming, and Hearts of Iron IV became one of his favorites—a military strategy game that combined his love of history, strategy, and learning perfectly.
Bryce also loved sports. He and his family went to at least one Cincinnati Reds game every year, and they had Cincinnati Bengals season tickets. Depending on the season, Bryce might go to one, two, or three games. He loved Joe Burrow, although he was always disappointed by the injuries that seemed to keep his favorite quarterback off the field.
He enjoyed being in the kitchen, too. He was never afraid to try a new recipe, and fried chicken became his specialty. He also made an amazing cheesecake from scratch and a Panera Bread copycat broccoli cheddar soup. Bryce was the kind of person who didn’t just enjoy something—he wanted to learn how to do it himself.
He even had very particular opinions about his shoes. For years, he wore the same style of Nike Air Max 2017s. They were the only shoes he liked, which meant his mom eventually had to hunt them down on eBay whenever he needed another pair.
Bryce was looking forward to his future. He had been accepted to Indiana University Bloomington’s Kelley School of Business, his number-one choice, where he planned to major in Finance. He passed away before he had the opportunity to learn that he had been accepted.
His second choice was Butler University, where he was considering studying Pharmacy. Just one week before he died, Bryce learned that he had been awarded an excellent scholarship to attend Butler. He was so proud of that accomplishment.
Bryce had so much ahead of him. When he put his mind to something, there was very little he couldn’t accomplish. The possibilities for his future seemed limitless. He was an exceptionally intelligent young man with the ability, curiosity, determination, and drive to make his dreams a reality.
But beyond all of his accomplishments and interests, Bryce was simply a wonderful son, brother, and person.
He was an amazing son who loved spending time with his family. He was also a devoted big brother to Ashley. When they were little, they played together constantly, and as they grew into teenagers, they still found ways to spend time together. They shared countless memories, laughed together, and always had each other’s backs.
Bryce was the kind of person who made you want to keep talking because there was always something interesting to learn from him. He was wise beyond his years, and his mom often found herself asking his advice about things because of the way he thought through problems and saw things from a perspective far beyond his age.
He loved his family. He loved learning. He loved history, gaming, sports, cooking, and spending time with the people who mattered to him.
Most of all, Bryce was Bryce—uniquely himself, quietly brilliant, funny in his own way, thoughtful, curious, cautious, determined, and deeply loved.
He was just 18 years old when his life was unexpectedly cut short on December 7, 2025.
There should have been so many more years ahead of him. More Bengals games. More Reds games. More history questions. More Minecraft worlds. More recipes. More conversations. More laughter. More milestones. A college graduation. A career. A life.
His family will forever wonder about the man he would have become.
But they will never have to wonder how much he was loved.
Bryce’s life was far too short, but the memories he gave his family will last a lifetime. His story continues in the people who loved him, the lessons he taught them, the laughter he created, and every memory they carry forward.
Forever 18. Forever our son. Forever Ashley’s big brother. Forever Bryce.
