Life story

Dusty was welcomed into this world on Sept 7th, 1995, by his loving parents Kevin & Colleen Casey. Being the 2nd oldest of four boys, there was always mischief going on & and you could be sure to find Dusty right in the middle of it. Nothing changed as Dusty, Alex, Joey & Ryan got older, the “Brothers” never lacked any fun and adventures and their strong bond will live on forever.

Dusty grew up in Prior Lake, attending St Michael’s Catholic School from Little Angels Preschool through 8th grade – making countless friends and memories throughout his time there. He was involved in student council, chess club, baseball and basketball where he was known for taking charge like no other but most importantly as the player that was always encouraging his teammates. Dusty then went on to attend Prior Lake High School where he participated in student council; intramural basketball and became a master potter – creating many amazing pieces of pottery. He excelled in football – making it to the state tournament twice. As a sophomore, he decided to try a new sport & took up Lacrosse, playing for the next three years. His senior year he won the Daggit Award – this award is selected by the coaches for the player who exemplifies Laker Pride; leads by example in all areas in life and who puts team first and their individual needs second. So many attributes of the Daggit Award Dusty carried throughout the remainder of his life. Upon graduating from PLHS, Dusty ventured off to Drake University in Des Moines and became a Bull Dog. He thrived at Drake and loved every minute of it. He joined Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity during his freshman year where he met many of his lifelong friends. He served as president of SigEp his junior year and was involved in many philanthropy events with his SigEp brothers over the four years of college.

Upon graduation from Drake, he was hired at Farmers Mutual Hail (FMH) as a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst I and within 3 years of working at FMH was promoted to BI Analyst II. Through their exemplary work, FMH gave Dusty and his best friend and coworker, Aaron, the opportunity to earn their master’s degree together from Bellevue University class of 2023. January of 2023 Dusty was promoted again to BI Data Operations Supervisor and January 2024 he moved into his current role of BI Data Operations Manager. Dusty loved his job at FMH and was well-positioned for a bright future and further advancement at FMH due to the impact he made in the organization and his accomplishments.

Dusty was always up for adventure – as a sophomore in college, he got on a plane for the first time in his life and ventured off to Sydney, Australia to study abroad for spring semester without knowing anyone. His time in Australia and New Zealand started his love of travel and over the next 10 years he made good use of his Delta miles to take many adventures with friends and family. One trip that we will always cherish was a trip to Orlando in December 2024 where our entire family rented a house and shared so many fun memories that we will always hold in our hearts.

Dusty was a man that had a vast array of interests and talents. He and his friend Hunter started Iowa Food Scene – a social media restaurant review platform where they would go to different Iowa restaurants & film their reviews. Dusty was in the process of a spin off called Dishing with Dusty where he was doing a weekly cooking show from his kitchen. He filmed his first two episodes in the past few weeks, and we know his show would have been a big hit.

Saturday mornings you could find Dusty tuned into F1 Racing or his Everton F.C. soccer team compete in the Premier League. Dusty was a huge Jeopardy fan and when he came back to MN, many late nights were spent with the family watching episodes together - we were always impressed by how many answers he knew. Of course, like his brothers, he was a huge sports fan – especially all MN teams – Wild, Gophers, Vikings, Timberwolves & Twins. He also supported the Iowa Wild and loved attending Drake basketball with college friends – he took in his last game in December. Dusty wasn’t only into indoor sports, he also took an interest in hunting. Fall trips home to Minnesota brought some goose hunting adventures alongside big brother Alex, “sister” Angela, brother Ryan and friends out on the Casey farm. Fall also meant deer hunting with friends at his buddy Joe’s family’s hunting land in SE Iowa. In December, Dusty shot his first buck and made sure to send the family a picture right away – the giant smile on his face showed how excited and proud he was of that accomplishment.

Philanthropy was important to Dusty, and he became involved in many different fundraising efforts throughout his time in Des Moines. His giving started during his college years and continued during his time at Farmers Mutual Hail. Dusty participated in packaging meals for those in need; donated blood at FMH blood drives; delivered Thanksgiving meals to those who couldn’t afford it; was a member of the Breakthrough T1D Committee at FMH to raise money for Type 1 Diabetes in support of his colleagues son suffering from T1D and most recently this summer, he shaved his head to raise money for St. Baldrick’s which supports kid’s cancer research.

Spending time with family was very important to Dusty – he put many miles on to travel back to MN for holidays, golf outings, a good euchre tournament and all sorts of parties & events. In 2021, Dusty was promoted to Uncle, and he loved coming home & spending time with his two adorable nieces. He was extremely proud when he became Godfather to his niece Evaleigh and the two of them had a special relationship. At family weddings you could always count on Dusty having a great time & enjoying the dance floor. Just last summer, he had the honor of presiding over the wedding of his cousin Jake & wife Hailee. Spending time with his cousins held a special place in Dusty’s heart throughout his life, making countless memories from a young age all the way into adulthood.

Included in his love for sports was his deep passion for playing golf. Dusty had an annual golf trip with his friends in which they would travel to new and exciting places to take some of the best courses around the country. Outside of his annual trip, he was a staple at the extended family golf tournaments that took place several times a year. When he wanted a little extra pressure, he regularly made use of his built-in foursome with his three brothers, where they would compete for bragging rights and bring out the worst in each other in the spirit of “good fun”.

Nearly four years ago Dusty made the decision to get a dog & he adopted Zeus. The two of them enjoyed daily walks; evenings cooking in the kitchen; sharing the couch watching TV or their many trips to MN. The two of them were just the perfect fit & Zeus is already missing his dad.

Dusty, the world dimmed when you left us and your kind and generous heart will leave a void in our lives. He will be loved and forever missed by his parents, Kevin & Colleen Casey; brothers, Alex and sister-in-law Angela (Dusty considered Angela his sister), Joseph and Ryan; niece and Goddaughter, Evaleigh and niece Emilia; beloved dog Zeus; Godfather, Robert (Patty) Casey; Godmother, Denise (Mike Doerrer) Williamson, aunts & uncles, Bill (Melissa) Casey, Maureen (Ron) Greenberg, Pat Casey, Judy (Tom) Borchardt, Dave (Shari) Giles, Mary (Jeff) Hoglin, Lori Hynes, Kevin (Lu Ann) Giles, Dan (Kristin) Giles, Chris (Katie) Giles; countless special cousins and friends and his Farmers Mutual Hail family.

Dusty is greeted into heaven by grandparents, William and Helen Mae Casey and Ed and Loretta Giles; uncles, Dave Williamson, Dwayne Giles, and Rick Hynes.

Happy Heavenly Birthday

Dusty, God blessed us with you 31 years ago! Little did we know how soon he wanted you back 💔. We know you are celebrating the most amazing and glorious birthday in heaven 🪽💜😇. We did our best today to celebrate your special day and the amazing person you are to us and sooo many that love and miss you. Eva chose the theme of heaven - the balloons on the floor represented the clouds in heaven and she even included a picture of the special people in heaven that you’re spending your birthday with! 😇🪽💜. She even asked her Godmother Kate to make you a cake - love the purple Dusty flowers 🪻 As I lay in bed reading through all the amazing tributes and memories on this site, my heart is breaking even more and the tears are flowing, but it just reminds me how so very loved you are and missed by so many. There are so many things I long for - the text on a Friday afternoon letting me know that you and Zeus are heading out and you would see us soon; you whipping up a batch of your Dusty dip or you’re amazing homemade mac & cheese; late night Jeopardy watching when you’d come home; early morning soccer matches; the love and fun you had with your nieces; the closeness you had with your “sister”; the special bond “the Brothers” shared; how much you loved Zeus and spoiled him; all the adventures had with your friends; the fun you brought to every family gathering; you’re amazing hugs and your laugh - oh how I miss your laugh 😆 I know you had to go for a little while, but goodbyes not the end 💕 Please continue sending us the amazing sunsets and sunrises - You’re doing an awesome job painting the sky for us! Happy Heavenly 31st Birthday - we love you so so much and miss you tremendously🎂🎉💜🪽💔

Bus Stop Memories

Lots of bus stop memories with you, Dust. Hard to believe there were years on end where we started and ended every school day together. I remember when the worst thing that had ever happened to us was the bus stop moved to the end of Casey Parkway, instead of the end of my driveway, so we had to walk aaaallllll that way home. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to do that just one more time <3

Happy Fourth Dusty.

Today we visited your gravesite, and your nieces left you a flag so you could celebrate too. We spent time watching old videos and looking back on memories from Fourth of Julys spent together. We miss your laugh, your smile, and the way you made every holiday a little brighter. You’re always in our hearts, and you’re never far from our thoughts. We miss you always.

Favorite

“Favorite” As I sit here trying to gather my thoughts on what to write, all I come up with are tears. Tears of laughter of over 30 years of great memories along with tears of sadness as I think back on the phone call I received from your Mom and Dad on January 20th. I still have a tough time wrapping my head around the fact that you are gone from this world. I find comfort in knowing that you are in the loving arms of Jesus in heaven. It was 30+ years ago when I was asked by your Mom and Dad to be your Godmother. What a great honor it was! You have brought so much joy and happiness to my life. Affectionally referred to as “Favorite”, you are and will always be my “Favorite” Godson! Reading all the beautiful tributes from family and friends is a reminder of how we should be living our life. You lived your life without hesitation and touched so many people with your positive personality and kind heart! These tributes are a testament to you of the major impact you have had on so many lives. I can hear Jesus saying to you as you entered the gates “Well done my good and faithful one.” I am so proud of the young man you became! Thinking back over the years so many wonderful memories come to mind. Uncle Willy and I are fortunate to live so close to the Casey’s. We spent a lot of time at their place taking part in the laughter that occurred with 4 boys along with all the nieces and nephews! One time they put Grandma Loretta in the go cart and gave her a spin around the property! She was smiling from ear to ear! Then they had her on the trampoline bouncing her around until she started yelling for “Wally” to help her! The laughter was endless! The Casey boys always had a knack for making you laugh. They would get you in the middle of the circle, slowly close in on you and start jumping up and down. All you could do was laugh until you couldn’t breathe! If you ever had the opportunity to ride in a vehicle with the Casey’s it was an experience! The minute the engine was started you would hear something like Mom put the CD in and put it on track number 3. No, I want number 9 another would yell. No, put it on 12! They wanted to hear their favorite rock songs from the CD that Cousin Liz made for Colleen. Whether it was Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith, Eye of the Tiger by Survivor or Joey’s favorite, Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey which he referred to as midnight train! It was a great adventure!! Dusty, you have left a huge hole in my heart. I will never forget the many phone calls or text messages you made over the years wishing me a Happy Birthday or Happy Mother’s Day always referring to me as “Godmudder”! The thoughtful gifts that you took the time to hand pick for me will be cherished forever as well as the times you would stop by for a visit when you were in town. You were so thoughtful and had such a kind heart! I will never forget our last visit in January before you headed back to Iowa. You walked me to my car, gave me one of those warm Dusty hugs and told me you loved me. Losing you is immeasurable but so is the love you left behind. Dusty you will always hold a special place in my heart. I will miss your Christmas lists, your great hugs, the “I love you Godmudder” and when asked if you needed anything your response would be “No, I’m good”! Continue to watch over us Dusty and send us those special signs that you’re never far away. You brought a light so great to this world that even though you’re gone, the light remains. I will carry you in my heart forever and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. I Love you Favorite! Your Godmother, Auntie Dee

Missing You!

Dusty, We’ve only known you over your FMH years, but in that time period, you made such an impact. Whether it be business-related or personally, you had such a great ability to genuinely connect with people and make them feel special. You provided such a great example of the type of person we should all try to be. It is a great tribute to your parents and the rest of your family. Whenever we went to an event, it was always a top priority to find you so we could visit with you, and of course, Colleen always needed to get her hug from Dusty. But what will always stand out to us the most is the friendship you had with our son, Aaron. The two of you shared so many adventures together and we loved hearing about all of them. You truly were Aaron’s best friend and a brother to him, as well as a member of our family. Unfortunately, we now have to figure out how to move forward day-by-day without you, a person we aren’t ready to go on without. However, it is amazing (if we pay attention) just how often we feel your presence. I guess that shouldn’t surprise us because in typical Dusty fashion, even in heaven, you are finding a way to connect with us. Love, Ron & Colleen Kuethe

Still can’t believe your gone, you were always up for a good time! Playing cards to jump rope and night games when we were young. I still remember where I was when I got the call you left us all to soon, we were in Florida I looked out over the ocean sunset and saw you always smiling always a great guy! We need more of you in this world, I also remember you and Dan on the dance floor of our wedding then up on the stage singing away, maybe a few beers helped but I always look back at that video and just smile and laugh! Love you bud rest easy

Sweet Nephew Dusty

So many happy memories of you! The joy and happiness that radiated from you, the beautiful smile that would light up a room, the hugs that were guaranteed when you greeted us - oh how we miss you. You always had so much fun when you got together with your cousins, whether it was jumping rope, playing games, sledding in the winter, bowling or Easter egg coloring at our house. Such good memories were created and forever embedded in our hearts. One favorite memory I have is from Gavin's wedding dance. You were determined to get your Godmother Auntie Dee to dance and convinced her that you could dance right there by the table she was sitting at! I can still see you trying to twirl her around! Not a day goes by that I don't think of you, remembering how you lived your life with kindness, generosity and so much love! I have no doubt that you are now in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Dust, miss you so much! Love you!

Dusty

Still doesn’t feel real. Still feels like you’re down in Iowa and we’ll get to see you next family holiday. Or maybe our schedules will line up this year if my rugby team travels to Des Moines this fall. I’m so lucky to have had a cousin like you, spending so many weekends at family parties and sleepovers throughout the years. Middle school getting to play each other in heated St Michael’s vs St John’s basketball games. Neither getting many minutes, but always hustling on the court. Helping me meet people going to Prior Lake HS knowing just a few people in such a large school. Getting to play 15u baseball together summer of 2011. Going to grab lunch at a Clancy’s in Jordan with Kevin, while the rest of the team was grabbing a quicker option. I remember you breaking out “Dusty’s dip” or “famous dip”, at a highschool poker night. Most guys just brought some cheap snack, but not you. In Casey and Giles fashion, you brought something homemade in a crockpot, that blew all the store-bought food out of the water. Always so cheerful with a giggle, bringing a smile to everyone’s face, and I was lucky enough to see it first hand in large crowds of highschool. As young as freshman year football, even upper classman knew Dusty. After college, the Queen song bohemian rhapsody has grown to become a karaoke favorite. Since you’ve passed, I don’t believe I’ve heard it without thinking of you and Kurt performing an interpretive dance to the entire 6 minute song. I think I got to see it live a couple times, but know it was made it onto a camcorder somewhere. Along with quite a few other hilarious videos you guys had made as kids. You made the world a better place, and brought joy to everyone around you. Til next time Dust

Dusty

Oh Dusty, It still doesn’t feel real. Aaron and I talk and think about you every single day, and it still just doesn’t make sense not to have you here with us. We miss you so dang much. The happiness, light, and energy you brought to this world were truly unmatched. I’ve never known a goofier, happier, or more fun loving person and I’m so thankful to be able to call you a friend. Whether it was watching and talking next level chef, FMH events, hot dog eating contests, showing up to chipotle in our costumes (you and Aaron in your couples costume of course), hockey games, card nights with the whole Casey fam, or just the random hang outs for any and every occasion we all truly made the best memories - nothing feels right without you here with us. But we know that heaven is so much brighter with you in it, and that we’ll get to see you and laugh with you again some day. We’ll miss you every day until then, and we love you so much. 💜💛

Miss you Dust

Dusty, It still doesn't feel real. Not a day goes by where you aren't on my mind. I so badly wish this was just a long nightmare that I am going to wake up from. I think we were so fortunate to have gone through so many different facets of life together in a relatively short amount of time, being classmates at 2 schools, co-workers at 2 companies, fans of underperforming sports teams, and best friends. And unfortuantely those are now so many areas to be missing you from. And I'm so mad for everything else we talked about doing and now will never have a chance to. But I consider myself one lucky guy to have had you play such a big part in my life for the last 10+ years, and I will forever be grateful for that. There are so many great memories and so many things I will forever miss about you. You were such a fun-loving guy who brightened up every room and undoubtedly made everyone around you a better person by just being yourself. And I, of course, have to thank you for helping me track down Gaby, that would not have happened without you. I feel like I owe you a debt that can never be repaid. What I can do is think about all those great times we shared, the lessons learned in how you acted and treated others, not take life too seriously, and constantly ask the question "What would Dusty do?". All of that and, of course, give your family some loving. The girls loved the candy, and your mom loved the flowers ;) I still miss you so dang much every day, and I'm looking forward to the next time we get to have a conversation, a laugh, and maybe sing a song or two. Love, Aaron P.S. Now onto business. I know you're probably already up there in negotiations about how a Superbowl can make it's way to the Vikings. Just don't make us wait too much longer.

As I work on this Busch light watching the Wild game I see the sun setting. I walk out onto the porch to take in one of your many breathtaking paintings you love to leave us. It’s hard to grasp the reality that you won’t be sitting across or next to me for the next family game of euchre. You always had a way to lighten the mood, and make anyone laugh at just the right time. You were one of the good ones, just a genuine genuine young man with so much to give. I know you are watching over us, and I hope you know just how big of impact you not only had on me, but continue to have! Go rest high on that mountain

Brother

Almost 4 months later and it still doesn’t really feel real. You always made sure to show up for family, constantly putting the miles on to be there with us for the big moments. I will always miss how you were always at the center of the action for every wedding and party, but the hardest part is the little moments that always stuck out to me so much. Staying up late and having talks between jeopardy commercials, talking through all my fantasy football trades with you because I needed your advice, shooting you a text anytime something big happened in our book series. I got some friends to give them a read and I don’t know how you could play it so cool knowing how pissed I’d be at the next misdirection I’d find. I see a lot of you in everyday life, and you’ve given me the perspective to slow down and look at it more. There is a piece of me that only belonged to you and it ceases to exist without you here, but the air smells sweeter, music resonates harder, and sunsets have deeper colors knowing you will watch over us all for the rest of our days. You leave behind a lot to live up to by the amount of love, respect and stories that have been shared, but I know you are smiling down on us as we work to be like you.

I have so many memories with you that it’s hard to recall them all. From countless hours playing the Wii, Xbox, watching movies, playing board games, WWE, watching the office/how I met your mother. Night games, football games, basketball in the driveway. The Pool! Those memories together were truly special and I’m so thankful you were a part of them. You were always the cousin that I could rely on to go get DQ, Freddy’s, Sonic or maybe even pick up some Pizza and Pasta! The board game nights were many ! Catan/Monopoly/Euchre the energy you brought unmatchable, your laugh was contagious. The light you brought was truly special. There will always be something missing at our family gatherings, love you buddy, till next time!

WWE

With you Dusty we could find a way to turn anything into a wrestling ring. Pool, trampoline, and my favorite ring being grandpa and grandma Giles basement. Taking all the cushions off the couches and people flying around from every angle. Times were simple and you were right in the middle of it all.

I still can’t believe you’re gone! You brought so much joy to everyone you ever met. Not a day goes by without you crossing my mind. I especially think of you whenever William is playing Mario Cart. It reminds me of when I used to babysit sit you and you’d ask me to play. You kicked my butt every time, even at 4 years old! I only ever beat you if we were racing by Peach’s Castle. You always wanted to stop and “have a picnic” by her castle so you’d stop and wait for me. Only I’d “accidentally” drive by the castle and tell you I’d meet you on the next lap. 😂 To this day I feel kinda bad tricking 4 year old you so I could win just once! Definitely not my proudest moment. I always loved babysitting you and your brothers! We’d have so much fun…at least until bedtime came around. 😂 That’s usually when the arguing and negotiations would begin. Little did I know, you boys were just preparing me for the daily bedtime battles with my own kids. 😂 William reminds me so much of you Casey boys. I swear, he has a little piece of each one of your personalities. It makes me smile! I miss you! I wish you were here to watch your nieces and cousins’ kids grow up. I miss your laugh, your warm hugs, and your wonderful smile! You could make anyone feel like the most special person in the whole world with one of your hugs! I wish I could have just one more of those hugs! I love you! Please watch over all of us until we meet again!

Dust, You were never anything short of a complete joy to be around. Going to family events always meant I would be hearing you snicker with Joe, mess with Ryan, and do whatever it took to get a laugh out of Eva and Millie. I loved staying up and watching your beloved Jeopardy with you and Joe (especially when you’d put on the celebrity versions at my request so I could have a fighting chance answering some of the easier questions). You have been and will continue to be oh so missed. I’ll watch out for Joe for you, and I know you’ll do the same. I love and miss you, brother. Love, Ciera ☘️
