Harry E. Benchoff, Jr., 87, of Brigantine, NJ, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Kathleen (Stockman), with whom he spent 36 wonderful years, and his parents, Harry E. Benchoff, Sr., and Mary (Sharchuk) Benchoff. Harry’s greatest joy was his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Kimberle (Mike) Viggiano and Karyn Benchoff; his son, Christopher (Lori) Benchoff; grandchildren, Nicholas, Colin, Ryan, Caitlin, Dylan, Christian (Marrina), and Karleigh; and great-grandchildren, Leo and Eva.
Born and raised in the Mayfair Section of Northeast Philadelphia, Harry was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School and went on to graduate from Drexel University. Harry worked most of his life at the General Accounting Office in Philadelphia and enjoyed playing Pinochle with his GAO buddies. He raised his family in Marlton, NJ, and later retired at the Jersey Shore.
Harry could always be found cheering for his favorite Philadelphia sports teams. He enjoyed walking, dancing, karaoke (especially performing his best impression of Elvis), vacationing with his family, and was always ready for a good “aperitif”. Harry had a zest for life and was always up for a good laugh, even if at his own expense. He was a kind, loving man who could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Harry’s Life Celebration on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Keates-Plum Funeral Home, 3112 Brigantine Avenue, Brigantine, NJ 08203. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am with a service immediately following. Interment will follow at Laurel Memorial Park Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 2nd Lt. Ryan Rehill Foundation at www.2ltryanrehill.org. Arrangements entrusted to Keates-Plum Funeral Home, 609-266-3481.
