Life story

Eunice Lavon Murphy was born on November 25th, 1955 to Joan and James Murphy in San Diego, California. The second eldest of four, Eunice was particularly quiet yet outspoken at the same time. She enjoyed reading, music, learning about things old and new and had a love of flowers.

On December 11th, 1980, she welcomed her first born daughter, Tiffany, who saved her during a dark time in life. The two were a duo until exactly 7 years later on December 11th, 1987, Eunice welcomed her second born daughter, Chelsea.

Eunice had a heart of gold. A God fearing woman, she would give you the shirt off her back and then help you find ways to be able to get your own shirts in the future :). Eunice’s heart was so big, that in December of 1995, she took in her 4 nieces and nephews, Nolivia, Joan, Malcolm, and Michael Jr helping raise them for her big brother, Michael Sr.

She dedicated 23 years to the San Diego Unified School District before retiring in 2021 as a Site Technician. While she enjoyed working and wore her title as “Site Tech” with pride, the title she was most proud of was that of “Nana”. Eunice absolutely adored her three grandchildren, Nicholas, Aramis, and Cameron. You could find them at the zoo, the movies, a park or having dance parties, she would do anything for them and they would do anything for her.

In September of 2023, Eunice was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and it made her very nervous as she had already lost 2 of her siblings to cancer. Shortly after her diagnosis, she found out it was mucoepidermoid carcinoma or salivary gland cancer; very rare and very aggressive but she wanted to fight, not only for herself, but for her grandchildren. After a round of chemo and a few of radiation, it was too much to bear and shortly after, she passed away, at home just like she wanted on November 18th, 2023, a week before her 68th birthday. She was celebrated and laid to rest on December 7th 2023 with those who love her and miss her dearly.

Mama, you may be gone but you are certainly not forgotten. We all miss you so much.

It’s been a while

I know I haven’t left anything here for you in a while. Life has just been rough, especially without having you here. But let’s focus on some positive: your NickyJJ had left for college! I know you’d be sad he is so far, but very proud nonetheless. Aramis is…a hoot! They are just getting so big I hate it seems like time has been flying much faster without you. We will never stop missing you Mommy.

Hey

I haven’t seen you in 3 weeks and 3 days but today Pedro loaded me up in the car, put my wheelchair in the trunk and we came on over. I’m sorry it’s been so long, I’ve just been recovering. You’d be proud I’m taking it easy…ish. Your son cleaned you up nice. We miss you so much. March we were together a lot even in Virginia. Social media has been rough sharing those memories. I love you and will never forget you.

Hey Mama

As I sit here with you on my lunch, just like I would do any other time, I’m thinking a lot of things, but most importantly you’re unconditional love and your active listening. There is so much going on that I wish I could sit next to you and tell you that you would understand and listen to. I miss that so much. There’s no one else I would rather share things with, I still grab my phone at any given second to tell you everything…that I know that sounds so selfish because I do have people here on earth in my life to talk to, but you Mommy are so irreplaceable , there will never be anybody like you and actually, that is a good thing because I wouldn’t want anybody else like you. I would literally give anything and I mean anything to have one conversation with you just one more time…. I hope you like your flowers until next time💜.

This one is for you Mama

Of course we had to go see your movie Mommy…another Planet of the Apes movie in the books. You would’ve loved it. Your son said “I have to see it for Mom” so your luck struck again and there was an early viewing. So many times I could just hear those random noises or excitement you make! It was a good one, but it’ll never replace us watching the original movies late at night. I might have to find one of those to watch just for you and make your Number 1 and 2 Grandsons watch it with me. I miss you so much Mommy. Creating these memories without you is rough. Love always, Your Sunshine
