If your wife is mad at you, buy a fishin' pole... She'll still be mad but you'll have a new fishin' pole. Bill Dance
Ronald Wayne Abbott
Born on October 13, 1956 in Martinsville, Indiana. Parents were Raymond Abbott and Sadie (Sue) Petro-Hoskins. Ron graduated from Jefferson High School in 1975. On April 2, 1977, he married Catherine Ann Diebold. Ron and Cathy had 3 children Toni (Lear), Bryan and Michelle (Fagan). He had 10 grandchildren Jordan, Cierra, Jacob, Kaleb, Kelbi, Zachery, Mason, Ashlynn, Keegan and Makana. He had 5 brothers DeWayne, Michael, Richard, Steven Abbott and Rick Hoskins. He had a lot of friends. Ron was loved by all who met him. He was a huge family man.His sense of humor was like no other. He was a hard working, stubborn, hilarious, kind, giving, loving but stern father and great husband and friend. He loved the outdoors. Loved going fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting. He was a bass tournament fisherman. Very knowledgeable on any water he went on. He was lucky enough to follow through with a dream he had of owning his own bait and tackle shop for a while. He loved to spend time with his grandkids going to ball games and take them on survival camping trips and teach them how to live off the land. He loved teaching Jordan how to play chess and beating him at it. He loved to do family genealogy and tell you all about our family history. He would take mom to cemeteries to find family members. He played football for a local minor football league for the Generals in his early 20’s. He worked at General foods till they closed, did construction work and worked at Wabash National for over 20 years till he fell ill. He loved being a husband and dad. He taught us kids how to stand up for ourselves, respect our elders and always do the right thing no matter what. He taught us needs always took precedence over wants. He made sure we were always taken care of and was there for us no matter what. He instilled a great work ethic in us kids and taught us you have to work hard for what you need/want. He made sure us girls knew what to look for in a good provider, husband and father to our kids and taught my brother how to be a good man. He set the bar high for us girls when finding a spouse. He loved our mom ( his Old Lady as he called her) very much and would do anything for her. They had their ups and downs but made it through the good and the bad times. Dad would often help the needy by buying groceries and going to dollar store to buy hats and gloves in winter for the needy. Dad was so quick witted at jokes and comebacks. You never knew what would come out of his mouth but you knew you would be laughing at some point. When I say laughing it was a guarantee tears in the eyes, rolling on the floor dying laughing comment or story. Dad became ill in November of 2015. He never lost his sense of humor through everything he had to go through while ill. My siblings, mom and I swear as we sat by his bedside right after he passed he made sure make us laugh one last time by doing something to the bed to try and scare us. He was a fighter all the way till the day he passed away. He passed away on Father’s Day June 18, 2017. We all truly miss him every single day and still feel his presence. He always said we would know when he was around by all things beautiful so wether it is a cardinal hanging out, seeing a hawk in the yard watching us or while driving swooping down in front of the car scaring the living daylights just to get a hi dad from us or while fishing the butterfly who wouldn’t leave the boat until you caught a fish and said thanks dad and out mushroom hunting not finding them until you say ok Dad where are they and bam they appear. We know he is always near keeping an eye out. We were all truly lucky to have him as a dad, husband, grandpa, uncle and friend. We will always love you dad.
