Lived 15 years

Life story

Aiden Renner Reese was born Monday, June 4, 2007, at Norman Regional Hospital at 6:34 PM. He departed this sweet Earth on February 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, best friend, Skyler Owens and many more friends at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Aiden moved to Edmond with his parents, Gary and Teresa (Boles) Reese on February 14, 2014. Aiden had such a good heart and soul. His passion was baseball, starting at 3 years old in T-Ball where he met his best friend, Skyler Owens. He and his dad would play catch in the backyard for hours, but Aiden would never want to quit even after the sun went down. He was a diehard New York Yankees fan, he took his baseball number 2 from the Captain, Derek Jeter and he loved Aaron Judge, who he got to see play in person in his life. For the last ten years, all of his weekends were spent at the baseball field playing travel baseball with several different teams. He made long and lasting friendships, and even brotherhood with his baseball family. In addition, he was a massive Oklahoma University (OU) fan. His house was a house divided, Aiden and his mother, who are originally from Norman, bleed Crimson and Cream, his dad on the other hand was a Texas Longhorn fan. Aiden's favorite thing to do was the horns down sign to show his support and get his dad riled up. He loved to fish and shoot guns, but his favorite thing to do was play video games with his cousin, Jake Guttery, and they played daily. He also loved to go to Jake's house to ride razors and golf carts. Aiden was just beginning to drive, and he was really good at it. In Aiden fashion, he was actually a little cocky. When his dad had to work out of town, he still slept in bed with his mama. He will be truly missed.

Aiden was preceded in death by his ole Granny, Beverly Boles; his Papa, Craig Cates; his uncle, Lieutenant Colonel Craig Larson; and his cousin, Shelby Guttery.

He is survived by his parents, Gary and Teresa (Boles) Reese; 2 sisters, Madison Reese from Edmond and Kaylee Reese from Plano; his grandparents, Papa Jimmy and Granny Bones (Connie) Mercer from Norman; his Nana, Yvonne Storer from Christchurch, New Zealand; his Mimi, Donna Cates from Noble; and his great-grandmother, Virginia Lamirand from Norman. He will also be missed by his uncles and aunts, Anthony and Ashley Lamirand from Lexington; Michelle Mercer from Noble, Tracey and Ed Davies from Christchurch New Zealand, Bonnie Larson from Lone Grove, Kristie and Kyle Guttery from Slaughterville, Karen Pickens from Noble, and Casey and Ariel Cates, as well as many cousins, Brenden Mercer, Chantz Mercer, Lillie Mercer, Aidan Davies, Caleb Lamirand, Leah Lamirand, Avery and Marie Pickens, Wyatt Guttery, Jayden Pickens, Amy Artz, Chad Larson, Abel Pickens, and his cousin/best friend Jake Guttery.

A come-and-go visitation and reception for Aiden will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, March 2nd at Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond. A service celebrating his life will be at 1pm on Friday, March 3rd at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City.

Sophie Sargeant’s favorite memories of Aiden

One of my favorite memories of Aiden was messing around Coach McCarty’s class. Though I was only in the Same hour as you for 1 month I miss getting to mess around and have Coach yell at us. I miss messing around in the hall, talking about the hardest assignments and just laughing at each other when we struggled with something the other thought was easy. Oh kid I miss you like crazy!

Brayden Gentile’s favorite memories of Aiden

Aiden Renner Reese, There are so many things I could say but we’d be here all day. When I had moved from Charles Haskell to Frontier the day I walked in to Mrs. Combs class you were the first person to talk to me you let me sit next to you and you introduced yourself and we went from there, that was 5 amazing years ago, I can’t thank you enough for everything you and your parents have done for me, every sleep over we had was always amazing no matter what. Every heartland basketball game we went to and every time we walked home from school it was always fun. We used to fight like brothers man but at the end of the day (or week) we were chill with each other. I still have the pair of Kyries you gave me back in 6th grade, then I moved to Summit and we still kept talking to each other then we moved back and I started going back to heartland and once again you were the first person to welcome me back and I’m forever grateful. My most fond memory of me and you was at the dirt track races in Lawton, just the car ride there was fun me, you, Teresa, and Gary arguing about football the entire way there about how Texas was gonna lose to Oklahoma and your mom trying to drown us out the whole time:joy: it was never a dull moment with you and your family. So deeply from the bottom of my heart, thank you Aiden you are a great person. I miss you all ready. I love you bro and I’ll see you again someday

Brylee Camp’s favorite memory of Aiden

Aiden and I had classes together 6th through 8th grade. My favorite memory of us is definitely when he and I got in trouble with the principal for playing around. We used to FaceTime every night and Snapchat all day playing around with filters.

Parker Spurgeon‘s favorite memory of Aiden

I didn’t have a lot of classes with Aiden but after 3rd hour we would walk with each other to freshman hall talking about wether the Chiefs or the Cowboys were better. We would just talk and catch up while we were walking. We would also walk to weights together talking about random stuff. Aiden will be missed.

Devontae Sartin’s favorite memory of Aiden

Aiden always had the best jokes and could make me laugh at each one told!

My favorite memory is our last food fight in the cafeteria this year, we got in trouble and upset some people (mostly Coach Crossen) but that lunch will go down in history as one of the funnest lunches ever! Aiden and I had the greatest laugh of all time together that day!

Cade Girard’s favorite memory of Aiden

One day in 2021, either early July or late June I was playing baseball with Aidan and decided to stay the night with him at a hotel around Owasso. We had won our game and afterwards we had IHOP. We explored some since the game was early in the afternoon. After we finally got to the hotel thats when everyone got gassy. It was noticed when we got in the elevator and me, Gary, and Aiden all started farting. The thing is, there was other people in the elevator too. As soon as we got out Teresa got onto us. It continued into the room and we are all laughing and suddenly Aiden says, “This is gonna be a big one.” a loud sound comes out and it turned out he crapped himself. He immediately went to the bathroom and changed and the rest of the night we were making jokes about it saying, “Never trust a fart.”

Mrs. McCarty’s memory of Aiden

As Aiden’s first grade teacher, I have to report that he was a firecracker and made me work hard for my money. He was all boy! In the beginning, he wasn’t sure about the whole school thing. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure if Teresa liked me that much with reports from me about how first grade offered challenges for her baby boy. I knew something had to change. I had to win him over and find a way to connect with him. So, I let Aiden talk about anything he wanted to each morning as he entered the classroom. He didn’t want to at first but he eventually opened up and shared his passions about baseball. We had that in common since my son was into baseball too. He was so excited and knowledgeable about it even as a 6 year old little boy. I remember him putting his uniform in his backpack so he could bring it to school and show me in all its glory. His face lit up with that smile that could melt you when he pulled it out! From that point on, we bonded and were able to make it a successful year as a team. He opened up about his beautiful birthmark that he called his “Angel’s Kiss.” He told his classmates that it made him unique. That year, he was desensitized to his peanut allergy and had his first Chick-Fil-A nuggets. I remember that it was a really big deal for him and he was so excited!! When he had great days, he would sit at my computer and type his mom an email because he loved sharing the good news with her. He was such a smart kid. I would offer to help but he told me he could do it, and he did! One of the hardest parts of being a teacher is that we only have a short time together before they move on. But, Aiden and I would always find our way back to each other through baseball. Whether seeing each other at tournaments, passing down his outgrown baseball pants to my son, and even playing against each other in middle school we had a connection that went well beyond the walls of a classroom and the game. He grew into a kind and caring young man and an incredible ball player. I loved watching him play the game that united us. Our students are with us for only a year. While it seems so short now, they truly leave the most lasting impression on our hearts. This certainly is the case for Aiden. I loved him and he will forever hold a special place in mine. He actually sent me an email a couple of years ago from middle school just to tell me hi. I’m hoping that means I made an impression upon his as well. Teresa, I feel like I may have grown on you too with our common love for your precious boy. I will always be here to support you and your family. Love, Mrs. McCarty

Carol Owens’s memory

The first time Aiden stayed over at our house my granddaughter was about 3. As we sat down to dinner, she kept staring at Aiden – she finally said “who IS that boy over there?” To which I replied, well that is Aiden, Skyler’s good friend. From then on, she used to call him “my best friend Adian”. The last time Aiden stayed over at our house he and my sister had a rousing conversation about their mutual love of Derrick Jeter and the Yankees. Later, I awoke to hear someone getting sick. Not knowing yet which boy it was, I soon figured out it was my grandson. (I felt bad for Aiden trying to sleep) After this going on for a couple of hours it finally came out that the boys had consumed an entire bottle of hot sauce on the snacks I had bought them earlier that day. Probably the bed bouncing, nerf fight didn’t help either.... We always loved having Aiden over and I am very happy my grandson had such a good friend. Aiden was always a talker – loved that about him! How I wish he had talked those last few weeks about his struggles. There is a song by Marc Cohn that keeps running through my head – “Let Me Be Your Witness”. These lines surely hit home with us all today. “When no one sees and no one hears Your secret heart, your bitter tears, when it feels like you’re just sinking in the sand When you can’t remember who you are When you wonder how you came this far Just call my name and put me on the stand Let me be your witness” In memory of Aiden, we certainly can be a witness for any child that needs us. No child should live with that secret heart. So, for Aiden – let US be that witness – if you see something, say something and be kind for Aiden. Let him live on through you. Thank you, Carol
