Lola Whitney Nez was born June 17, 2014, at 8:01pm weighing 6 lbs. 6 oz. She immediately illuminated love, determination, and peace in her family. Lola quickly showed her stubborn side and willingness to take on the world in a pure Lola fashion. She was famous for her spicy personality and her stubbornness. Lola loved everyone and made immediate friends with anyone she met. She was notorious for joining other families at park parties, church events, public celebrations, and even restaurants. Her favorite things were snuggling with her mom or dad, playing with her sister, singing in the car with her brother, ice cream, swimming, dancing and singing along to Camp Rock. Lola loved a crowd and was destined to be the star and center of attention at any event. She will forever be the life of the party. Lola passed peacefully in the arms of her mother and father on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
She will be missed by her parents Jeffery and Jessica Nez, her sister Addie and brother Asher, grandmother Lynda Willis and countless aunts and uncles, cousins and friends that completely adore her.
Lola danced her way to heaven into the open arms of her grandmother, Linda Nez, and her Papa, Brent Willis.
The family would like to thank all those in the community that loved Lola, specifically the Eastern Idaho Down Syndrome Family Connect, the families of the Special Education Parents’ Alliance of Idaho, Allies Family Solutions, Speech Blossoms, and the staff at Primary Children’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Lola, you fought the good fight, you always looked for the extra 10%, you were willing to reach for something further, and we never underestimated your value to us. You will be forever cherished and loved.

From the beginning people put limitations on Lola. Rather than expecting greatness they tried to manage expectations. What I learned was the most amazing people saw Lola’s beauty, intelligence, and humor. As a community we need to make room for everyone. We need to see people for their greatness not limit them based on perceived inadequacies. Lola made us better people. The hole her death left in our world is indescribable.
The world would be a better place if we learned to Love Like Lola. She loved everyone without judgement, unconditionally, and with joy. My dream for her was a long, fulfilling, life with opportunity and laughter and love. My hope was for a community that saw past Down syndrome into the heart of a bright and beautiful girl. Our baby girl did not get the long life I dreamed of but she sung happiness into every day and every life she touched. Look around and find the Lola’s around you. They are the perfection of this world and will inspire greatness in you. Our Lola made us better people and we miss her but will always love her.
