Life story

Born October 5th, 1944 in Arab, Alabama to the late Selmer and Stella McWhorter Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a 1962 graduate of Tarrant High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard submarine USS Cobbler SS-344 as Torpedoman Petty Officer 2nd Class Kenneth Campbell from 1962-1968. He was co-owner of Birmingham Communications/Allcomm Wireless from 1975-1998 when he retired at an early age. After retirement he let his love for Gold Wing Motorcycles take him to all 49 states and most provinces in Canada. Mr. Campbell was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association as well as The Over the Hill Gang. Traveling through God’s country, finding great places to eat, making new friends, and riding his bike on the open road was music to his ears. His sidecar with his grandkids as copilots was his absolute favorite though. Over the years, Mr. Campbell served his community as a Pine Bluff Water Board member and Blount County 911 Board member. Mr. Campbell was a big supporter of the Oneonta Police Department K-9 Unit. He was profoundly dedicated to his family and keeping his family together. Mr. Campbell, more commonly known as Papa Ken in Blount County, spent the last several years of his life simply wanting the perfectly prepared steak, a comfortable barstool with a cushion and good conversation. He was such a good man with a heart of gold. Papa Ken was always lending a hand, a trailer, a little advice, even more critiques, or a few dollars and always left a good tip. You could bet, if there was a baby anywhere near him, he was going to smile and strike up a conversation with it.

Approaching a year in heaven

We are about 9 days away from the worse day of our lives. But one of the best days for you, as you got to meet God before we all did. I can not believe how fast this year has flown, it’s been the longest but quickest year ever. Truly the hardest year of my life, I’ve always needed my papa. But more so now that you’re gone. We miss you more than you can imagine. But I hope heaven is treating you right and those angels are cooking those steaks like you like it. I love you.

1st holidays

We are trying to distract ourselves during this season. I had Wanted to do a Christmas display at Palisades last year, however preparing for Jordan’s baby shower took over my time. This year the whole family is chipping in. We miss you beyond measure. Some of us were able to get together for a weekend in Hattiesburg back in September. We had a good time. It was great seeing the family down there. We also met for breakfast on your 80th birthday, Charlie B’s of course. Your great grand babies are growing up so fast. I sure hope you’re watching everything they do. Oh what we would give to have you back. You left us too soon.

6 months

Today marks 6 months. 💔 6 months of no dinner dates with my daddy. 6 months of no good morning texts. 6 months of no “I love you” 6 months of total heartbreak. 6 months of emptiness. 6 months of feeling lost. 6 months of emotional battles. 6 months of missing you tremendously. 6 months. 💔💛🙏🏻 THIS IS SOOOO HARD! 😢

Farher’s Day 2024

I miss You. This has been such a HARD week. I’ve been very emotional. I know You’re telling me to dry it up and keep going. I know You’re proud of me for what I’m doing. I know it’s the right thing to do. I just need your love and strength to keep me from breaking. Never stop guiding me, ok??? I’m keeping your plot neat and clean. I can tell a sweet kitty comes to sit with you at times. I think that is so sweet. I tend To think Charlie dog sent it to keep you company. I know Kitty prints when I see them. 💛

Proud moment

Yesterday your grandson Ryan had his RN pinning ceremony. Today will be his graduation. I was Unable to be there in person, so I watched on my iPad. You were there with him every step of the way. He later showed me he had his comfort cross in his pocket the whole time. We love you and we miss you tremendously.

Four months and one day

I miss you. Terribly. As the months go on it gets harder and harder. All I want is a hug, advice on life, and for you to call me needing some cornbread. I know you’re probably up there mad at me for being so sensitive but I got it from you. I love you

Date engraved

Today was hard for me. I finally got your new date engraved on your stone. It looks complete… but hurt my heart since it’s so final when it’s etched in stone. I miss You terribly. I love You.

Ready for spring

Your blanket is beginning to sprout green and is looking nice. Kim and I put pretty new flowers at granddaddy and grandmothers grave today. They are so pretty.

Today

Today Kristin and I put new flowers on Selmer & Stella's grave. We visited you hoping you saw us and how strong we are being. Only with the love you're shining on us could we make it through losing You. I miss you so very much, your smile, laugh and touch. You raised me well and taught me right from wrong. You are my hearts song. It's singing loud and clear My Daddy Dear. I love you missing you until it hurts then I hear you forever I'm with you, you blurt it loud and clear My Daddy, My Dear

Wednesday dinner

Went to Mio’s for the first time in months. It’s Wednesday. That means dinner and drinks date night with my daddy. It wasn’t the same. It will never be the same. I had my usual meal. Glass of wine… the bread and dip was just like you liked it. But you weren’t there. Why? Why did you have to leave us so soon? Why?? It’s so painful without you. I just need a hug from you. I will not even fuss if your face is scratchy on mine. I miss you terribly. I love You. (Butterfly kisses) 😘

My daddy

You taught tough love, yet you were the most sentimental man I’ve ever known. You loved us beyond measure. Our lives will NEVER be the same. I know you were tired; miserable in fact this past year. We desperately wanted to heal you and make you better. We were not ready to let you go and I know part of you was ready… but the other part still had a to do list. I know you are guiding us daily, and we are doing our best to work your to do list in Kenneth fashion. We will carry on with the label maker, gem clips, rubber bands and even the colored nail polish. I thank you being the best daddy, even though you didn’t think you were. I tried to pass on some parenting tips to Alex that I learned from you. I truly believe they worked; she’s the best daughter. I miss you so much it hurts. I really hope I made you proud; more than I let you down. Moving back to Blount County and spending the last 2 1/2 years with you was wonderful… I just wanted more time. These great granddaughters miss you. But we will never let them forget you. And oh, we know you loved and kissed on baby Kacie before she made her arrival. I know you were so happy to see nearly all of your kids and grandkids together the night before we laid you to rest. It was a great night. Long overdue… but will happen again. Please come see me in my dreams. I need You!
