Life story

As you sit on this bench, dedicated in memory of Bill Heerschap, enjoy the beautiful view of Georgian Bay which was near & dear to his heart. Bill was born on November 10, 1951 in Toronto, ON. He was a loving father to two amazing children, Ryan & Melissa & a wonderful husband of 43 years to his wife Barb. He truly was a family man & doted over his two beautiful granddaughters, Scarlett & Aubrey. His career brought him North, joining the O.P.P. in 1973. His first posting took him & his new bride to Manitowaning, Manitoulin Island for 6 years. He then was transferred to Meaford, ON in 1979 where he policed most of his career & retiring as Sgt. in 2007. He made Meaford his home for over 40 years. You could usually find Bill puttering in his garage or his beautiful gardens. He was very proud of his gardens, which were always the talk of the neighbourhood. Gardening was definitely his therapy. He loved to travel especially to Cuba & also took in the Jays Spring Training in Dunedin FL cheering on his favourite team, Toronto Blue Jays. He was an amazing handyman & could repair & build almost anything. He loved helping out his children with their house renos & any other projects. Bill served on the O.P.P. Marine Unit & loved patrolling the waters of Georgian Bay. He is very much missed & we hope you have enjoyed reading about our special, Husband, Dad, & Opa.

Forever in our hearts.
