Born in Minneapolis, attending Patrick Henry High School then graduating from Minneapolis Vocational High School, it was too cold for Roy so as soon as he turned of age, he set forth to California. He knew there would be rust free cars waiting for him. Roy then attended the University of San Francisco; he became a Program Manager at Varian Medical Systems. After 20 years at Varian, he worked for Visa and Lionel Trains. Retiring at 55 he was able to devote his time to his many hobbies and avocations. Known as "Radio Roy", he repaired car radios and vacuum tube radios in his garage workshop for 30 + years. Frequently contributing to the Studebaker Drivers Club Forum, he advised people on mechanical and radio issues. He posted over 7,000 responses. He had an extensive collection of vintage radios from 1920 on. He also collected American flyer trains and Lionel toy trains. He was a member of Golden Gate Toy Operators Club, and Golden Gate Lionel Railroad Club. Alternating between his various hobbies, which included collecting Studebakers and Rambler cars, he kept himself busy. Boy did he love to sing. He sang with Gilbert and Sullivan Savoyards Operetta Company at Stanford University. He belonged to many quartets: "Barbershop/Doo Wop", "Barbershop chorus", as well as "Sound Judgment", "The Golden Chords men", "The Fault Line Chorus" and lastly "The Treble Makers." Roy did not let the grass grow underneath his feet; he was always on the move, and making friends wherever he went. It fills our hearts with so much joy knowing what an admired man he was. Radio Roy was loved by many people around the world from Australia, Europe and North America. He will be dearly missed by so very many people.
