Sarah Jane Clayton
September 24, 1967 - June 09, 2018
Sarah Jane Summers Clayton, age 50, passed away peacefully at home June 9, 2018. She was born Sept. 24, 1967, in EI Paso, Texas, and was the first child of Michael Howard Summers and Shary Keil Summers. During the next eight years she was joined by three sisters, Heather, Amy and Bethany.
The family lived in Silver City, New Mexico, before moving to Providence, Utah, in 1984. Sarah Jane graduated from Mountain Crest High School and Utah State University with a degree in music. While studying at USU, she met her eternal soulmate, Thomas Brandon Clayton, as they attended an LDS campus ward. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 12, 1996.
Sarah Jane's passion was marching band. She taught band and orchestra at Bingham High School. She has donated hundreds of volunteer hours helping the Mountain Crest High School and other Utah marching band over a 25-year period, loving each hour spent helping young people enjoy music and band as she does. She was a founding member of the Red Rocks Marching Band Invitational and served on their board. Sarah Jane passed that passion on to her three daughters who have all participated in color guard and percussion.
Sarah Jane is survived by her husband, Thomas Brandon, and their three daughters, Amy, Abigail and Aubrey; her mother, Shary Summers and three siblings, Heather Winward (Chad), Amy Wilcox (Jeff), and Bethany Nivison (Jeremy).
Viewings will be held Thursday, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, June 15, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Providence Fifth Ward chapel, 355 Canyon Road, Providence. The funeral service will follow at noon. Interment will follow at the Providence City Cemetery.
