Life story

Ryan James Dukette, 42, of South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, July 5, 1981.

Ryan was truly a one of a kind, wonderful, and talented person. He always had a big smile for everyone and a helping hand if you needed it. He was modest, intelligent, and generously shared his talents with the people he cared about.

He was a talented carpenter and woodworker. Ryan worked for many years with his dad, Joe, honoring his woodworking and planning skills which Ryan then applied to friends and families homes. Anyone that knew Ryan knew he was an amazing artist. He had a knack for taking recycled and reclaimed items and making them into jewelry and sculptures. He was also known for bedazzling his clothes and belongings with stickers, patches, fabric, buttons, etc., loved music and arranging beats as “ABO the Arranger” and he was also a Tagger “Get Yours or GY” were his tags so look out for them in your travels. Ryan also enjoyed hiking, biking, snowboarding, and hanging out with friends and family.

The last chapter of Ryan’s life was set in Plattsburgh, where he became a monumental part of the community. In 2021, Ryan became an integral part of the construction and development of Old Soul Design Shop Inc. He helped to renovate and create a safe space for the people of downtown Plattsburgh. He was often found on a barstool at Monopole or Hobie’s, entertaining his friends with jokes, pranks, art projects, and stories. He was truly a person that everyone was happy to see walk through the door.

Left to cherish the memory of Ryan are, his mother, Zoe Raymond (Jack McKown); siblings, John and Carrie; his uncle, Mark (Bev); cousins, Pat, Alex and Marissa; grandmother, MaryAnn; aunt, Holly and family; uncle, John; Ian and his Vermont crew; and many, many friends and cousins; his dad, Joseph “Papa Joe” Dukette and stepmother, Tara; sisters, Shara (Jayson) and Tasha (James); brother, Orion; aunts, Deborah, Janice (Gary) and Lisa (Bob); uncles, Jeff (Ellen) and Maurice (Sandy); cousins, Shaunice, Matt (Mia), Jake, Liz (Jose), Nicole (Roger), Jeff, and Em (Jake); nieces, Lyla, Phia, Aria; nephew, Westin; beloved friend KT and best friend, Zach.

His siblings, Shara, Tasha, and Orion will always remember times spent in “The Coffee Clubhouse”, Smokin’ hot house parties (everyone at those parties will be missing you too) and camping in the yard and on the beach.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Lyle Raymond; maternal grandmother, Jean Ann Reynolds; paternal grandmothers, Gabrielle Dukette and Pat Hannah; paternal grandfather, Jefferson Dukette; aunt, Colleen Bonnier; and a dear cousin, Maurice “O9”

Ryan was a remarkable person and an impactful spirit. He will always live on in our hearts and minds and we will surely miss his love and presence. We are hopeful that Ryan’s new journey will be full of adventure and peace.
