Wonderful people.Made to be together for ever
William served in the armed forces. We honor that service here.
This Bio is for two very special people who departed a month apart. “The beautiful irony is that our loss is another’s reunion”
Pop as well all so loving called him passed away suddenly at the wonderful age of 99 on the 16.07.2023 Nan passed away at the wonderful age of 88 on the 16.08.2023 many say it was from a broken heart.
As their granddaughter who loved them with all her being, their absence is felt deeply, however I feel very privileged to have had them for so many years, not only to just be there but to offer advice, for me to share funny stories with, for my own children to grow up with and to be loved by. Please enjoy reading about the two special people in so many of our lives
William (or as he would later prefer to be called Geoff) was born 11/4/1924, as a young boy he attended Golden Point state school until the age of 14, when he took his first job as a garden hand at whites Nursery. He enlisted into the Australian Army on May 13th, He was based at Puckapunyal before being posted to Townsville. He left the Australian shores for the Pacific Islands for his tour of duty until 15th Feb 1946. He received four prestigious medals for his service. When he returned from the army, he didn't speak of it much, just got on with life. He became a member of the Ballarat Fire Brigade in March 1949 resigning from this in 1959 he took on a position of career firefighter with the CFA where he held the position of senior fireman until his retirement in 1984.
Margaret Glynis was born on the 15th July 1935. Margaret was the daughter of Grace and Leslie Eva. Margaret had an older sister Gweny and younger brother Ronnie, I'm told these three shared many adventures together. Margaret attended Macarthur Street primary, Then attending Girls high school until year 9. After finishing her school she worked at the Wattle Cafe, she continued this line of work until she met and married Brian Gudgeon together, they had five children Ian, Cheryl, Daryl, Craig and finally Joanne. Maragaret was always there to support encourage, organise and keep the kids safe. Brian sadly died in a workplace accident in 1977 and whilst this rocked the whole family to their very core Margaret was there to make her family feel safe and secure despite grieving herself.
Both Geoff and Margarets spouses had both sadly passed away, having known each other for many years previously they reconnected, despite both of them wanting no strings attached, that quickly went out the window when they fell in love with each other. They married on 17th Nov 1978 in the presence of loving friends and family. Geoff quickly taking on the 5 children as if they were his own. Together they shared 44 wonderful years together even when pop would tell us grandkids that Nan only served him stale vegemite sandwiches for dinner, or convincing the grandchildren that all the baking that had been loving done by nan was actually done by him. I'm sure many of the grandchildren believed he could bake an amazing sponge cake for years. Pop loved to go out and have a bit of a fish, he would always tell you where the best spots where. He was also an amazing gardener (certainly not a skill I gained from him) I loved being able to go out into his garden and pick the strawberries with him. Together they leave behind 5 Children, 15 Grandchildren and 35 Great Grandchildren. Whilst we miss them both dearly we are so incredibly lucky that we had such amazing parent, grandparents and great grandparents.
