Rafca Sassine, aged 66, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 13 May 2015.
Beloved wife of Joe Sassine for 41 years.
Loving mother to Helen, Lena, Raymond, and Ramona.
Cherished mother-in-law to Nabil, Alex, George and Saline.
Adored grandmother to Chloe, Claudia, Rachel, Georgio, Christiane, Joe, Rebecca, Elissa, Isaiah, Rafaela, and Charbel.
Rafca was born on 5 December 1948 in Lebanon to Choukrallah and Wassile Sassine, the eldest of four children. She was a devoted sister to her brothers Hanna and Antoun, and her sister Antoinette.
After a valiant and courageous battle with bowel cancer, Rafca’s illness took a turn for the worse in May 2015. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of her family, friends, and countless supporters carried her through months of gruelling chemotherapy.
Even in the midst of her own suffering, Rafca selflessly reached out to others affected by this devastating disease. She comforted fellow patients during chemotherapy, struck up friendships with nurses, and offered encouragement wherever she could.
Known for her ease in conversation—even with total strangers—Rafca possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humour. Her signature gift of joy, expressed through constant smiling, laughter, and joking, will never be forgotten.
A woman of deep faith and the heart of the Sassine family, Rafca lived her Catholic spirituality wholeheartedly. She lovingly hosted annual prayer nights each May, opening her home to family and friends to pray together and share a meal as one united family.
With a true zest for life, Rafca loved to dance, sing, cook, pray, and above all, spend time playing with her grandchildren. She treasured long chats with family and friends, enjoyed shopping and lunches, and was known for her love of beautiful coats and big handbagsjust a few of the many things that brought her joy.
Rafca leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, generosity, and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
