Life story

Gene slipped quietly and peacefully into the Lord's hands after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his family on December 5, 2010, at the age of 75. He was born on May 12, 1935 in Tildon, Indiana to Robert L. and Alma (Webb) Marsh. His family moved to Green Camp in 1950 where he currently resided with his wife.

Gene had a love for basketball, softball, being outdoors cutting firewood, but his greatest love was for his family and his Lord Jesus Christ above all things.

After graduating as President of the close knit class of '53' of Green Camp High School, he married his high school sweetheart Kitty (Kempton) on August 14, 1955 in Kokomo, IN. They exemplified the perfect, wonderful, and loving marriage for over 55 years.

They have three children, Jeff (Kelly) Marsh, Marion, Greg (Mary) Marsh, Green Camp and Jenni (Michael) Strawser, Green Camp. As well as grandchildren, Nikki Marsh, Zach Marsh, Bo Guider, Chase Guider, Payton Guider, Justin Marsh, Haley Klenzman, Natalie Klenzman, Kendra Lyons, Kamey Reinwald, Erin Strawser; and great grandchildren, Zach Davie, Elizabeth Davie, Porter Shane, Kole Guider, Kaleb Lyons , and Hailey Lyons. Gene is also survived by his sister, Judy (Gene) Schultz, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don (Norma) Kempton along with many loving nieces, nephews, and family.

Gene was employed 55 years at Johnston Supply having various roles from stocking inventory to office manager with a time in between serving in the US Army stationed in Germany and the Reserves in Ft. Meade, MD. His other involvements include being a faithful and devoted servant to the Lord serving Green Camp Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher for 41 years, trustee, deacon, and care taker of the church. This past September he was honored as the Mission Person of the Year for the church Association. Gene served 18 years on Green Camp Village council, was a member of the Green Camp Lions Club, Green Camp and Marion Senior Citizens, and was a volunteer fire fighter for the Village of Green Camp, Mobile Meals, and The Palace Theatre.
