Eric John Polka
Eric was a very special person. He was loving, loyal, real, free spirited, funny, goofy, creative, humble, giving, non judgemental, caring, grateful, and the list goes on. He was a son, younger brother, twin-brother, father, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin, companion, best friend, and fashionista.
Eric was truly a hidden gem. He accepted people from all walks of life. He was free spirited and full of life. He was able to get along with and strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He had a special way of making others from all different walks of life and backgrounds feel loved, accepted, heard, and understood. He could do impersonations so well that he could have you laugh so hard that you cried.
Eric never understood why people tried so hard to fit in with the “norm” rather than being true to themselves. He didn’t understand why people were made fun of or treated differently based on preconceived notions, such as their glasses, race, hair style/color, tattoos, clothing, special interests, and learning from mistakes made in the past. Many people try to fit in with their peers in order to be accepted. Eric created Misunderstood Kid (MUSK) clothing in 2012 to represent all individuals who care to be true to themselves and original.
Throughout his course of his addition, he tried his hardest to stay positive and find his purpose in life. He volunteered to help others maintain their sobriety while working on himself. Despite the battles he faced, he always tried to motivate others and encourage them to work hard. He wanted more than anything to overcome his addiction that robbed him from the joys in life.
We were blessed to have known Eric for the 26 years we did. May God bless you, Eric. Let your light shine bright so that others may live. You are our Angel. We love and miss you more than you will ever know!
